Well, at it again....had some issues with the crossbow & took it in yesterday. Thank goodness I did! Apparently it was about ready to "blow up" because the strings were stretched. I was having problems getting it sighted in properly passed 20 yards & scope was maxed out. After checking nothing was loose that wasnt supposed to be, figured was beyond me. Thankfully an hour getting restrung & another half hour sighting in & i am ready to rock &roll! PSA for anyone shooting a Ravin crossbow, get the strings replaced! Company recommends every 2 yrs. Mine was in 3rd season. Sent from my SM-N960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I would recommend yearly on any crossbow. They are under an enormous amount of stress and wear out a lot faster than standard strings and cables on a compound. Glad you got it fixed in time!
Friday night I took my son out and he was able to shoot a nice doe. He hit her a little high and had me worried but luckily got the top of both lungs and she didn't go far. Of course, she ran straight to the bottom of the ravine and died in the ditch, which means poor dad had a long, uphill drag the whole way out. Thank God for deer carts! I finally got to hunt for myself Sat and Sun evenings but only saw 1 small buck in 2 sits. I didn't expect much and didn't hunt my better spots yet. It was more of a "going through the motions" type of thing for me. I wanted to get out and hit some public this weekend but this stupid Covid cough isn't helping me right now. Hopefully it clears up before long so I'm not hacking up a lung come the rut!
I didn't hunt this weekend, with my back really jacked up. My wife reminded me, 'with your luck you'll shot a deer, if you hunt'... My back is starting to feel a bit better, but there is still no way I could sit at my 2 and 3 mile in spots... I may just buy a bag of corn and sit on my few acre (to be homestead) lot this coming weekend.
Congrats! Now get rid of that cough ! Honey drops for coating/soothing the throat& supress the need/ feel to cough? Sent from my SM-N960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I have a week's vacation coming up in November. Missouri rifle season starts on the 13th. Which week before rifle would you prefer? Last year the first week of November was extremely warm with highs close to 70. I elected to take the 2nd week and the activity was phenomenal. This year temps seem fairly similar both weeks. Traditionally, I've had better luck the first couple days of November. What would you do?? Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
I rarely have my best hunts the first week of November. I personally prefer later, but you never really know! I killed the buck in my avatar on 11/7 last year when it was 70 degrees out. When it's time, it's time! Hunted last night and didn't see any deer. I left my setup in the tree and plan on going back to the same spot tonight. I'm 8 yards off the ground in a big cottonwood that has buckthorn grown up all around it, and 30 yards from an active scrape. I may just sit that scrape every afternoon this week and see if something shows up. I don't have much else going on anyways.
In WI where i live, typically around Halloween & that 1st week of Nov is the new moon & start of chasin ! Sent from my SM-N960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Im out! Bring me something good! Lil warm today, hoping the water hoke has a visitor or two of the horned variety! Sent from my SM-N960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I didnt see much action over the weekend, Hunted Friday eve and saw 2 button heads, I saw no deer Saturday and skipped Sunday hunt and worked around the camp.
So i cut out of work early to sit after a little rain storm. Soybean field was harvested yesterday so hoping this will be good. Only issue is its a bit windy. Its supposed to calm down but so far the wind has only intensified! Fingers crossed! Good chance to see s yote or 2 out here too! Sent from my SM-N960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I took the day off in celebration of my dad's birthday (10/18) He's been gone 6 years... still hard to believe. Anyways... had some luck on the marsh. Sent from my SM-N981U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Nice work!!! I hunted last night and saw a nice young buck making a few rubs but that was it. Took tonight off as my wife is down for the count with the Rona so I'm working remote + corraling children. Hoping she's feeling better tomorrow when this cold front moves in.
First off, sorry about your loss. My dad's birthday is October 26 and I also lost him 6 years ago. Miss him all the time. Secondly, congrats on the doe! Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
Decided I better make the drive up to my farm after work to hit this cold front. Was met at my gate with a new rub. Good luck this weekend everybody! Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
@Hammer & rednas5 condolences to you both. Good luck & congrats on the doe! Saw 16 deer last night, on the opposite side of the field of course. One nice buck decided to come to 30 yards well after shooting hours were done. Basically i could see a fuzzy deer body & not much else. Of course i was half out of the stand at this point attempting to sneak out. Literally one foot on the platform & one on the ladder sticks....frozen, hoping they will move away sooner than later! Back out now hoping they come back out with the cold front. Unfortunately the neighbors to the west decided to come to their property. Kids all over screaming & running. guess we will wait &see what happens! Good luck all Sent from my SM-N960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I finally managed to get in the woods. Got in the stand at 5:00, pulled the trigger at 6:00. Measurements and scoring to come
Nicely done!! Love those perfect shots. I hunted last night and didn't see anything but some sandhill cranes and wood ducks. I've hunted 5 evenings in the last week and have seen exactly 2 deer so far. I'm on a roll.
