Leaving soon , I'll be in stand in a few minutes. Across the road from my house. The neighbor was out with his son doe hunting and saw the big 8 pt on Saturday. His son could only shot does. 150 yards from my tree.
Got a text from farmer they are taking rest of corn off tomorrow. Hopefully I start seeing more bucks once the 400 acre sea of cover comes down!
Congrats Chris!! Doe looks like it coughed up a lung before giving up the ghost. I've got a good breakfast sausage recipe, if you've got some pork to mix it with...
This recipe scales well - I think I made 10-15# last batch. If you don't like garlic, you may want to cut the amount in half (or more) - My wife thought it had too much. If you don't have fresh herbs (sage/thyme), use 1/3 the amount of dried. Only other thing I may play with on my next batch is adding some maple syrup and cutting back the brown sugar, but it may make it too damp... https://www.themeateater.com/cook/recipes/the-only-venison-breakfast-sausage-recipe-you-need
It's going real well so far, however I almost shot a buck before this doe. However it wasn't legal. I stopped him and was at full draw. I couldn't tell if he was legal so I let down and grabbed binos. Boy am I glad I didn't shoot. Big wide 4 pt. He needed another pt on one side or the other. I'm glad also, I know there bigger bucks on this farm.

Yesterday was a Doogie. I went and sat on private in the AM then at 10 went to a nearby piece of public that's archery o ly until October 31. I went along the edge of the CRP and woodbine and kicked up the biggest doe I've every seen, there was a ridiculous scrape line but I wanted to go over the ridge to get down by the creek to check for cruising bucks. It worked perfectly and I heard a buck making a scrape below so I started belching and scraping the leaves with my foot and headed down the ridge towars the creek. I get to the bottom and am about 5 yards from the creek and I see the buck and I tuck myself behind a dinky tree, he stares in my direction and then keeps walking to cross the creek in my direction, I range where I think k he's going to pop out but he actually enters the creek much closer about 12 yards or so. I am drawn back and then I see I have clearance for the vitals. Lungs at least. He looks at me again and I release, my arrow zips right through and he takes off like a bat out of hell...I go check my arrow and it's all grease...I am standing the creek and then I hear him running through the creek and he's running directly at me, at which point I think I may get gored. I nock another arrow and Thankfully he hits a deep spot and has to start swimming, he turns around and I launch my second arrow...miss. I see the exit hole and there's blood but not a lot. He then runs back away from me, circles around and comes back around me and flies across the creek like some kind of majestically critter. He takes off through brush and disappears...I look for blood and nothing. I grid search and nothing. Being that there was only fat on the arrow I'm guessing he'll live but damn...this season has been a doozie...my dad is coming down to hunt the 1-4 but the weather is supposed to be unseasonably warm...we'll see what happens.
