I just went on one of those trail following adventures yesterday. All I did was see deer that still had their antlers on.
Yeah, some of our little doinkers have dropped their antlers but most of the bigger ones are still carrying.
Slacking off on my duties already...this ain't good. No I hadn't changed it yet. I just tried to change it and it didn't change so I posted in Cricks thread.
Checking a cam tonight on my way home...hope to have pics of a couple nice bucks either without antlers or with only one side so we shall see
All I got was a small six and some spikes still holding both sides...found out one of the big boys was hit with a car during hunting season. Not sure why they didn't feel the need to tell me that sooner but supposedly there is still another nice one out there.
You aren't slacking, I haven't found 1 yet! Plan on going out tomorrow but we still have snow covered ground.
Nice find! I've been on the lookout when I go around tending feeders and coon traps (<yes season is over here so not running them now). Trail cams are showing them just now beginning to drop some antler so I'm not getting too serious about walking around a lot yet.
Went out today and took the family. Found a ton of rubs but no sheds, still quite a bit of snow on the ground so.....we had a snowball fight!
I pulled cards today and it looks like a good portion of the bucks have shed in the last couple of days. I didn't find any sheds today on the way around the route but I did find a couple of dead deer that I'm guessing are coyote kills. They were back a ways from any roads so I don't think they were spotlighted. Edit* After reviewing old trail cam pics, I'm afraid one of the deer I found dead today was the buck I named 'Patches' because of a double throat patch. He disappeared after Nov 15th from all the cameras, I assumed maybe someone shot him but if the dead one is him then he made it until recently because the one I found had shed one side of his rack. The cape was pretty much decimated so I wasn't able to identify him from the double throat patches. All I had to guess by is he had a busted G3 on his right side and that's the antler that is still attached to this dead deer...also with a broken G3. Fricken bummer...I always wanted a double throat patch buck and have lost out on two now. Probably never see another one.
That's pretty cool! Walked for an hour at lunch today with no luck. I'm hitting it hard this weekend; I'm having withdrawls!
