I'm planning to head out Saturday, but also hoping to make it out for the evening set tomorrow evening, again on some public land.

One glimpse of what I believe to be the patriarch buck ("Gimpy") near my home this year, but the does and fawns continue to be regular pm visitors.

Caught the evening sit last night at one of my usual favorite morning spots-a flood plain with pine, beach and oaks. Despite my better judgement didn't sit in my normal spot but 30 yds deeper- 7pm, from my normal spot I hear 2 big snorts followed by ruckus as he dashed into the woods followed by a couple of more snorts-evening over.

Today I bumped 2 headed in this morning. Passed on a fawn at <5yds, I know it was trying to find mom, but its punny bleat was cool as it passed by. Had one sneak behind me snorting and cracking through the hedgerow, only to kick him up on my way out, ~25yds from my spot. Doh! :whip:

I've only been out 3 times so far, temps have been warm (80+) and my stories are inline above. I won't be getting out this weekend, but I hope to be hitting it pretty hard in the next few weeks.

I missed bowhunters post above, the #s sound promising.

FWIW-I think only 4 of us presently in play with the rest of team's seasons opening the end of this month/start of Oct.

I saw 1 doe driving to hunt, kicked one out as I parked. Sat in the of and on drizzle all day hoping for a decent break that when they would get up and feed. All day I saw, squirrels, a field rat and just about every type of bird in the county. That my friends, is a bad day.
