I'm fighting a nasty cold, I hope I can shake it quick. I am off this Friday and will be hitting it hard.

All I can say fellas is what a night in the stand can you say pre rut action!!! Well I decided to walk down to the stand after I got things situated at home. I got to my stand at the new spot AKA the power grid at 6:30 or so an not five min in there here comes a fork horn. I knew that I had seen him yesterday around the same time an tonight confirmed it I didnt have time to do anything but just watch he was full speed ahead across the power grid. I could have stopped him easy for a shot but what better way to draw a big one to the area than this young guy. So he went on to the northside of the funnel an not 15 min later 2 doe show up one mature the other a fawn by now ive lost shooting light but I was ok just soaking in the action because guess what, it was awesome an we have a long season ahead. I am so excited that I will probably climb in the stand in the a.m. hope all is well with the squad just thought I would update yall

I would say with the coming cool front to the spreading across the states the next week is gonna be a good time to rack up some more points whether buck or doe. The only way its gonna happen is if we all make an effort to get out an hunt smart an steady at the release I got faith in our team that we can do good this season.

Couldn't help buck get out this morning. It was nice an crisp a perfect day for hunting imo got to my stand at about 6:00 an sat until sun up. I had 2 sightings first up to the plate was the same fork horn who has been pretty consistent the last 3 days he started cruising right after I put the Buck Spell lure out an has used the area every since then. I had several cracks at him this morning all within 20 yds from my stand. There is a scrape an some of the buck spell within range an he actually went for it first smelling some I dropped directly on the dirt then trailing it right to the scent pad in the tree branch. I mean it couldn't have worked any better it was perfect!!! I could have shot him 20 times. What do I learn from all this? First my scent cover is good second my stand placement is awesome and my tactics for patterning deer is really gettin there. Im almost certain my trail cam got Lil Forky a few times an if it didn't its not working right. Second up to bat was about a year an a half old doe an the only opportunity I had at her was at 52 smart gal if u ask me she is starting to come in to cycle i would guess as she headed back in to the cover where lil forky went only he went all the way to the end of the funnel then to cover. Good morning if u ask me it was fun to watch. I tried getting the camcorder out an going but couldn't get it to focus right plus I didnt wanna give myself away to forky. So do you guys think I did right passing on the young buck or would you have shot him? I guess my expectations are a lil high as my 2012 buck ACE is right at memory when I see bucks I think about him because he was a mature 10 point my first mature deer with a bow an im lookin for some bigger or of his caliber. I shoot a trophy taker rest an I am a trophy hunter an ive also been nibbling on my most recent harvest for the last several days. Im really hoping that I get a shot at a good buck this year an when I do I will be ready. [IMG][IMG]

Good Morning Jeffrey... my take is this - shoot what you like (it's that simple). I tell everyone that. It's not always about the biggest or the baddest deer in the woods. It's about tradition, family, and a hunter - one on one with the game s/he is pursuing. I hope you get the opportunity to harvest the buck of your dreams... wherever and whenever that 'date' happens.

Jeffrey, sounds like you are having fun out there. It all depends on the area you hunt and your personal goals. Personally I would pass on a fork, especially this early in the game. I have shot my two biggest bucks at mid-day so maybe give that a shot on the weekends. Good luck.

Rain here and half day of school so I pulled my cams after a 2 day sit and got nothing other than a bunch of scrub bucks and does. I still don't know where that 140-150 went that I saw early this season. I'm hoping he will show up soon but I have off school Monday so I'll be hunting for sure then and I'm gonna try to get out Saturday as well

Went out this evening an I must say it was interesting forky was back plus does but everything was out of range. About 10 min after rattling a new guy stepped out same trail as forky but he wasnt a fork horn he was really on the move just like forky was the day before last. Im thinking I should give it a shot in the a.m. just to see what happens who knows maybe he will come into the buck spell. I got about a ten second look at this new buck an he had reasonable main beam length. I couldn't really see the tines as it was just a glimpse but Imo he may have been a shooter buck definitely a big body deer so we will see how it goes this has definitely been a good start to the pre rut.

Wow just checked my forecast for Friday. 20 to 30 mph winds with 40 mph gust possible. I don't even know if that is huntable

Looks like a great spot. I'll be out tomorrow battling the winds.

I think the Deer are in the Corn or on the other side of it. Just got busted by something with these swirling winds.
