Good luck with him Troy !! Love to see you get him !! I am off the next two weeks from work. Will get a lot of hunting in. I will do a bunch of scouting for when you come to bow hunt also. Hoping to have 3 trail cams going by Saturday. The deer seem to be moving better now. Best movement I've seen all year !! Not many were killed during rifle season. Tough season with the warm weather and a lot of tags went unfilled. That is good news for you. Well it is good news for me too !! No snow yet and it isn't looking like we will get much in the near future. They are talking 20's for highs and single digits for lows while you will be here. Should be perfect weather for the deer to be moving. Give me a shout this weekend if you get a chance. I need to talk a few things over with you so we don't miss anything to make the most of your trip. Really looking forward to it !! Tim
Tim, BEST of luck to you. I know your season has been tough but things can turn around in a heartbeat. Go for it!
Sounds great Tim! man I hope you get one down real soon, I know its been a tough one out there..so I am very to happy to hear things are looking better. I can not wait to come visit and get some good ND whitetail hunting in! Tim U wont believe what happened to me tonight... I was hunting off the ground.. TJF style.. looked away from the area I expected the big boy to come from...for 10 seconds.. as I noticed a doe below me.... turned my head back and BAMMM ... I couldnt not believe my eyes... there he is...right in my lap..walking by me.. 20 yards broadside... Split 6.. full daylight.. 330 pm... CHIT.. he takes two steps and turns his head right at me and pegs me in my natural blind.. stares me down as all I can do is freeze.. with my bow in hand... mutha saw me turn my head to him... He bounds out to 70 yards..turns and faces me for 5 full minutes.. can not smell me.. stares through me ..stomps.. snorts.. and then walks off ... out of site.. 5 minutes later as I am just so pissed I had looked at that dang doe... and got caught.. I see antlers coming back towards me from where he was.. he is so sneaky.. He peaks up over the rise at 100 yards.. then 90, then 80... I have the camera rolling then..hoping he is coming back.. I know he didnt smell me but I also know he knew something was NOT right.. then for no reason he just turns tail and bounds back off... Mutha Trucka... Man I blew it bud.. should have never let my guard down... I had him and couldnt get it done.. back after him in a few days.. gonna let him chill a bit...and hunt a few other spots..I really want to kill him off the ground.. but may have to hang a stand...treestand would have been easy tonight..
Dammit !!!! I've been busted like that more times then I want to admit. So far never by a buck... always does. I swear they can see you blink. You just don't get away with anything on the ground unless it is windy. Late season the wind doesn't even help. Man what a bummer !! At least you still have him guessing and it wasn't a full fledge bust. Can you move a little bit when you start hunting him again ?? He will be watching out for that spot or at least be nervous going by it for a while. I have a feeling he will swing wide of it for a bit. 3:30 is early. Good to see he is on his feet by then. Tim
Yes I am running out of time.. I did back track his approach in the snow after he left.. I have 2 tree options if he uses that approach again.. 1 tree option that would cover a couple other approaches that I have witnessed him use over the past 3 years.. He has no idea... usually its a doe that leads to a bucks demise.. last night a lone doe saved his life.. because If I would have been focusing where I should have been..I would have saw him approach through the brushy side of my blindfrom 40 yards out.. I am just sick! dangit...dangit dangit.. so close... I am gonna hang a stand .. pretty sure.. I need to now if I want to get a crack at him.. hes gonna pay close attention to that natural blind..
Well, better late than never. My projects today took much longer than I had hoped. It was after 3 by the time I got the rig ready. The inch of snow last night coupled with the drag from the sled made the going tough... I made it, but I got too sweaty in the process. The woods are open & the view has changed, but the stand is back in operation. Now I'm just trying to cool down and wait for sunset in 30 minutes. The lake is drumming with the expansion of the ice. If something shows up I hope this old stand stays quiet!
Nice set up Fitz! It's been a lot of fun following your adventures, Man I sure hope you get one to come through. I know I am pretty stoked about these next 3 weeks! My buddy showed back up in the daylight! I am stoked, gonna hang a stand to kill tomorrow.. 18 days off for me starting NOW!
Got Out For a Walk Got into the area I was having a problem with an acreage owner earlier this season and found some unreal stand locations for next year . Totally blew me away with all the sign. Put some tree flags into a few locations for the spring. Then make the moves. I actually asked the wife if she wanted to come for the walk because the snow is almost gone. She said yes and said she had a great time. So I can now have another set of eyes for shed hunting, Yahooo, awesome for me,got my best friend interested in something she dislikes me doing. Killing big game! Just needed to tell someone, anyone listening!!!!! LOL Fitz Didn't look like to much sign in and around your stand, then again my eyes ren't that good anymore. How was it for sign when you got back in again where Blade lives? Good luck on getting him. Rocky
Got the stand in, went old-school and built one! ... hunted it tonight in warm temps and lots of wind.. nothing moved. Back at it at daylight..headed to a different area..got some great bucks over there I need to go snoop around and hang some cams... and see whats moving.. Gonna hunt split 6 a lot in the evenings and hunt my other area in the mornings..
Get Him Troy! I want to see that bad boy on the ground. Still got a few doe tags here, waiting on the big snows to try some spot and stalk.
Keep at it boys! Rocky, there's still sign around. Pretty good wear on the trail crossing the dam. Otherwise, trails here & there, no less then fall, no more. Some deer yard up in our area, but many don't. Saw one of the 1 1/2 yo bucks at my dad's house next door. He'd dropped a side already I still need to get some fresh batteries for my other camera so I can get it out there too. I'm anxious to catch a glimps of Blade or one of the 8pts. All I know is that if I stick a buck, I'm not gonna drag him out by his horns...
Sorry I havent been around much, going through a divorce but havent let that stop me from hunting even tho thats one of her reasons for leaving! Either way I still have my buddy working on my 130" kill video from IN for us to enter and I still have one buck tag for KY. I did shoot a buck in OH the other day with a gun. I know this doesnt help us but heres a few pics of him. 8pt with split G2, gross 150.5" w/ 2.5" deductions.
Ruttin Nice buck ,can't wait to see the video of your 1st buck,it's got to be in before Jan 15th for it to count, that's the deadline bud! Sorry to hear about the personal problems, sometimes thats the way life deals a blow to us, good luck with all of it. Rocky
Sorry to hear about the divorce Rutin. I hope that your time in the woods brings you peace of mind a clarity of thought that will help you get through all this.
Hey Guy's Team 6 is so worried about losing to us that there willing to buy an airline ticket for PT to fly out and shoot a doe there seeing his season is over. What's up with that? LMAO Just need 120 incher or 2 does to put us in the lead guys, come on Blade !!!! Lets go #28 Rocky
