Id see when he plans on harvesting his beans.
With it being this late id wait for the beans to frost if they havent been harvested. Thats when the deer will really hit them. Cut corn dont matter much anyway, they will still frequent the field for the scraps. For instance here, with the drout weve had the corn got picked in early sep. I still see deer + turkeys in the corn fields with a bean field couple hundred yards away. Some of it still dark green but most of it is starting to turn and lose its leaves.

Well this was one of the oddest openers I've ever had. Much of it due to the events of last night.

I shot a doe right at dark, 6 yards, slam dunk. Well, no blood, no arrow left me totally in the dark with my approach. I found one drop near impact & a couple drops about 40-50 yds away. With cold overnight temps & no blood trail, waiting to morning was the only logical choice. Sacrificing an absolutely PERFECT opening day morning, I trekked off in search of my doe. Before I'd even found her, I get a call, my dad has a nice buck down. Shortly after that, my neighbor calls that he found my deer(he was helping me look). It hadn't gone 80 yds and made a slight hook, and fell just 25 yds from where I backed out last night. Well my neighbor wasn't the first to the deer, critters had taken a small share last night, but not much, I still recovered the majority of meat. Basically they just ate around the exit hole.
But with needing to go help my Dad get his deer out & the critters starting the job on my deer, I field quartered all the meat out and didn't get any contest legal pix. Nothing in the rules says "1st doe". I will shoot another one, so that's really not a big deal.

I also may have opened my mouth last night too soon making plans this evening as the weather forecast was supposed to be horrible. But the rain looks like it might be ending...breaking plans though wouldn't be right It's still early, losing one more sit isn't gonna wreck the season.

Here's a couple pix of my Dad's buck, it's his best bow buck.

Rybo, congrats on the doe and to the great buck your father killed. Awesome last couple of days for you two.

I saw 7 doe this morning but could not get off a shot. I switched over to public land this afternoon. I saw 3 small bucks goofing around in a creek. I literally saw one stand up on it's back legs and do that little boxing thing with it's front legs. It was hillarious. Other than that I saw zip.

Brett, sounds like a fun sit. You back after it toady?

I'm headed out this afternoon. I'm going to put my dad in the beaverdam stand. I'm thinking I'll walk him to the stand and then walk further in to the back side of the old pond and find a tree that I can sit in. It's about another 300yds (as the crow flies) in. My only hesitation is that it's supposed to get up to 70 today, so I'll have to move slow so I don't break into a flop-sweat!

Fitz, NO Sunday hunting here in Virginia. :( It is going to be a tough hunting year in terms of hunting time for me. I am counting on about 5 solid days of hunting from now until Mid-November. I will be sitting in my best spots all day long on those 5 days.

Got out for my 4th sit
Got ready to start my 1/4 mile walk into my same stand I killed my buck from last year and as I got in about 400 yards I pushed up a bull and a cow that were together. So my afternoon looked promising as this is what I was after a moose. As I rounded my last corner to get to my stand I noticed a huge tree had crashed down crossing my deer path going into the bush. Anyways I got settled in at 4 pm and started my sequence of cow calls and moans. Wow man the bush woke up,literally a bull started raking the bush and woofing back at me . Then another cow started running the ridge back and forth moaning the breed me moan. This went on for an 1 1/2. I could not believe that bull would not come into my calling.Oh well ,that's bow hunting.
AT 5:30 it all settled down and got very quiet ,like what I'm used too, stayed that way till 7:20 with very little light left I could make out the sound of faint foot steps crunching the dry leaves on it's way towards me. I stood and readied myself for the shot and out walked the most unusual looking buck I'd ever laid eyes on. He was 2 1/2 but the colouring was light beige and he had white socks around his eyes and a white stripe down the centre of his nose and a thick white bar across the bridge of his nose. On top he sported a 3x3 set of antlers scoring maybe 90 he came right across the path towards me and then looked back to the path. The same crunching sound was being made and I readied myself again as they come out in file of size. This one was a 3 1/2 4x4 125 maybe and they went right to it in front of me for 45 minutes. I hung my bow ,got out my camera and started taking pictures ,little did I know they wouldn't turn out.
Due to the darkness that settled in and me not using a flash, as not to startle the deer to my location. I could have taken both deer and what I did realize was that the big tree that fell across the path was a detearant to the deer as they did not use the trail like they normally do. I'm going to have to get in there with chain saw soon to clear a path for them. It was a great nite to be out and I'll be back on stand again tonight. Good luck to you all ,I assume everyone on the team is hunting by now.
    Rocky

Alright guys, I'm going to try and broadcast Live Video from the stand for part of the night (maybe 15-20 minutes or so). I'm curious how it will work. So, here's my Ustream channel:

    http://www.ustream.tv/channel/northwoods-fitz

I'll let you all know before I go Live. If the link doesn't work, go to the Ustream site and search for "Northwoods Fitz'.

We'll see how my battery holds up! :tu:

Life is good, mind it racing thinking about my upcoming whitetail hunts come OCT 10 ..when she opens back up. Temps are dropping for the long haul, the Fall is setting it, colors are beautiful right now, crisp cool air at night, almost freezing.. Love it! Hope you all had a great weekend! can't wait to see some more blood drawn by our team!

I will be able to get out only 3 hours this week, on Saturday morning. Life is busy with my new work schedule, my wife's hectic schedule, and two of my three kids in sports 5-6 days a week!

Good luck to everyone hunting this week! Heading out tomorrow for three more days of chasing elk. Temps are dropping and rain is moving in, should get them moving great. Hoping to catch up to the bull I was into last week. Absolute bull of a lifetime. Coming out bloody, either an elk or me. KILL!
