Might have to trip the trigger on some freezer meat (cow elk or any bull) here real soon. This Destroyer of mine is wanting to kill something! :) I am in elk every stinking day I go hunting.. The big Whitetails are being fairly nocturnal right now with this heat and full moon. Morning hunts ...more of them would be beneficial ... I am limited there.

Come on ! Come clean, how can we get it cheaper??? Discount's for team members? Question about the merano wool Sitka Mid Base layer Traverse top and bottom. Have you used them ? Or are they to new ? Any feed back would be appreciated.

To get Sitka Gear Cheaper, watch CamoFire.com. Also check your local dealers, alot of the 2010 products are going on sale.

Have not personally used the Merino yet, know guys who have though. Merino is extremely nice for breathability, wicking, and warmth. Packable and light, it is a great base layer for adding lots on insulation without bulking up, but will breathe enough for hot weather hunting.

I do not use the Traverse tops or bottom simply because I hunt the west and usually hunting in an active manner. I use the Core Series. However, if I were to hunt the mid-west during winter on a stand all day.....Traverse.

The best thing about Sitka Gear, IMHO, is that it is built for bowhunting. Low bulk to warmth ratio and everything is cut and sewn with bowhunting in mind.

Sounds like I may have made a good decision on the Traverse Merino. I do sit all day sits in - 30 weather and in my mind the Sitka is geared to what I'm looking for. Thanks for the heads up:rock:. I still can't get over how something so slim and snug fitting can keep a person so warm. When I got the package in the mail from Cabela's, I thought ,what is this? Some kind of a joke! The 2 items didn't weight 1lb. The stuff is tried and tested in the Artic and that is good enough for me. Oh yeah Camofire carries all last year brands and camo patterns too. They couldn't match the price of Cabela's on the Traverse BC. I've been a member on there for 2 years and their prices seem high even though they advertise it at 50 - 60 % off.

    Got Out Tonight
Went to the same stand that I put up 3 weeks ago as there was a north wind where I figure to hopefully arrow High Tower. Was slow and I figured it would be awesome tonight as the temps dropped almost 20 degrees to 12 from 30. Was raining a bit as I went in and I pushed a fawn up ,she scared the crap out of me as she bolted out of the high grass from 5 feet away. Saw my first doe at 6 as I think she came into my doe grunts, Stuck around for a 1/2 hour then gonzo, then all hell broke out there was deer moving every where and a bull moose that I wanted was chasing a few bucks from his willow patch. That happened at 7 till 8:15 then quiet again and then Darkness set in. Was a great night for my 1st sit and I think this stand is going to be productive.

Well no luck in Ky again.... I think will all the storms pushing through that alot of acorns got nocked out of the taller trees on the ridges. My cameras over foodplots and corn sites are DEAD! This is the only thing that would make sense, I know it seems a little early but Im gonna have to try and get up on the ridges and see whats going on. Didnt get a single buck on camera since the last time I was down there. Oh well that why its hunting and not shopping

Checked my cameras yesterday. Does, foxes, moose and a beaver.

I did get a couple shots of a pair of bucks, but each photo has something blocking their head like this one...

... only the tips of his tines are sticking out. I'll shift my camera to the right a bit next time I'm there (not until season is open :tu: ).

Hey guys, slow here this weekend. I attribute a lot of it to the record heats and full moon. Lots of critters on trail cam at night.. nothing much moving during the daylight.... I am on the road, my best friend (my bud whom coaches as Boise State) lost his father this past weekend. Heading to a funeral. Won't be back in the woods until later this week. Peace/Out :) Good luck to you guys hunting.

Fitz, if those temps remain low you might be posting up an early season slammer!

    What up team?

Is it just me & Fitz whose season's open this weekend?
right now my plan is to just head behind my house Saturday morning. Depending on how that goes, I'll return in the evening or go down the road aways to another property. I'm doe only at this point, but I'd like to get one early.

    Hey guys,

I noticed that most of you have logged into the Non-Typical Whitetail Journal accounts I have set up for our team. I have seen a few hunts added, but I am guessing most of you are just checking it out to see what it is all about. That's great, that is what I was hoping people would do. I am wondering if anybody has any impressions yet? I am looking for feedback, positive or negative. I really want to make this journal as helpful and useful to hunters as I possibly can, so any advice or critques from hunters like yourselves would be greatly appreciated. Also feel free to ask any questions you may have. I have pretty thick skin, so please be honest with your assessments.

Again, thanks a lot for helping out!

Well I've been unsure of when exactly I was going to be able to hunt this weekend, but my plans are smoothing out...

Looks like I'll be headed across the lake Saturday afternoon for an evening sit. I'm still waiting to see what the winds will be doing. Last I looked they were saying S which would put me in the beaverdam stand. If it switches to a more Westerly wind I may run & gun further to the North where I've been scouting as of late. Found a real nice mature stand that would afford me great visibility.

The forecast is holding out so far. Cold but back to more normal temps this weekend. Glad to see the 80's go!
