Way to hot and windy here for deer hunting. 77 degrees. Sometimes you have to take what mother nature gives you.

Not bad for 2 hours on the river.

Finally got a buck, but it was with the shotgun. I've been hunting this farm since 1990 and this is the second biggest buck I've taken there. Property that sits next to a busy highway isn't ideal for growing big bucks :) I was happy to get some venison for the freezer.

Our expanded archery season opens around September 10 and closes today. This is only for a few small regions in the state near urban areas and coastal areas where allegedly the deer population is thriving. Regular archery opened september 26 thru october 25 and rifle srason opened oct 26 thru nov 24. I hunt with my bow during our gun season. I live in a disgustingly liberal state and if it were not for our rich hunting heritage and large population of rural residents it would be even shorter. We also have no hunting on Sundays so that even shortens the season even more.

If it were up to me we would be in Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming or Montana. Unfortunately my wife could never live away from her parents. I got really lucky to get her out of Portland (our big city)into the country.

We've decided to hold off on buying a house here because of the very same thing. My dad lives in CO(I use to) and we are really thinking about moving back out there next summer. The wife will be an RN in May so we will decide after that. Beautiful state.

Well fellas got a few more days then headed back to Illinois for a late season hunt. After that SC and Alabama till early january. Which basically means if I don't fill my tag next week there is virtually no chance I will be able to improve my score for the team. We have one buck in bama on our farm that will push b&c but he is a ghost. No one has ever laid eyes on him on the hoof, just a few TC pics. Here he is last year...

Just realized the date is off a year...he hasn't showed up this year but then again no one is there to run tc's now that I am in Kansas. Here are a few more pics of him... Peach Orchard 106-1.jpg Peach Orchard 096.jpg
