Well its been dead here in Nebraska shot 1 doe and seen a couple small bucks and several more does but no chasing! Did walk up on about a 140sh buck making a scrape at 15 yards but could not get a clear shot drawed on him twice and he was just in too thick of brush to take the shot! Heading home in the morning so maybe next weekend! Nice deer atlas and good luck everyone hunting
Well I shot a buck tonight. I am a little unhappy with the size but this deer was shot in the back leg and had a bad limp right leg was completely broke at the hip. It was youth season so someone just made a bad shot or a poacher tried to shot him at night. So I would have felt bad letting him walk by and suffer so I took him. He is a 8 point but was only 2.5 year old deer. Well I just got home so I have to finish cleaning him then I will get the measurements. Oh yea nice deer atlas.
Buck for team 28. Taken at 530 pm on 4 Nov 12. Had to shot this deer due to him being shot in the leg and he had no use of one back leg. Otherwise he would have walked but it is atleast points. Hey mike I went ahead and posted it in the scorecard thread. Just let me know if I am missing anything.
Nice buck killroy. Fellas, my tale is not one of gloating, but one of shame. Saturday I sat ALL DAY for the first time ever (and probably the last) in hopes of seeing what we had named the Big 6. I saw one young 8pt right at shooting light, and then nothing until 4:30pm, when the Big 6 was walking right towards my tree and closing at 10 yards! I grabbed the bow off the hanger, hooked the release and tried to draw all in one motion......and I couldn't. Could not get bow my back!!! My back has been giving me fits all seasons and I think it was just sore from sitting all day....anyway, when I failed to get the bow back, the buck spooked and circled at 25 yards. When the buck walked behind some trees, I drew back easily this time (thanks, karma!!) and settled the pin on him, released and........hit a #!&#@i limb that I couldnt have hit if I was aiming at. Arrow thankfully deflected waaaaay off course and didn't draw a hair on the buck. I honestly thought I was going to puke. This wasn't the first time I've encountered this buck, but it is the first time I've had him in range. For those keeping score at home, its Big Six 4- BBM 0.
There is always tomorrow bbm. Nice job on the buck Killroy. I have 4 more days until i leave for Kansas for my 7 day hunt, and from what i am hearing the timing is going to be perfect with cold weather moving in. My goal is a fat doe and a 140 or bigger buck.
Buttonbuckmaster, where about in Southern IL are you? I hunt over there as well and was just wondering how close we are. And sorry to hear about the miss, those experiences are truly gutwrenching. I know from experience.
Ok. I hunt down in the very bottom of the state around Olive Branch. I see that you aren't too far from Pinckneyville. My brother is hunting up around there this year for the first time. I think that the deer in the areas that I hunt have been hit hard from EHD, as I'm not seeing the amount of deer that I expected. And my brother has hunted the areas for years and said that it is nothing like it used to be. He has talked with several others and they have the same opinion. How about your area?
I'm not seeing any does or fawns to speak of but I am seeing alot of bucks. Haven't figured that out lol. I've heard of areas being hit really hard near me, but I haven't found any dead deer.
Coming up on the end of my deer vacation. More time out in the stand than my wife wants to think about, and 6 days in a row seeing the buck I am targeting and I think I am getting burned out. Not sure how to close the distance, every time I move to another part of the property, he shows up (close as 43 yards, mostly 60-100 yards out) I have seen nothing else of note on the property, may just leave it be and see what kind of damage the gun hunters do and try again in the late season...... Guess what I am saying is it not looking good for adding points with a buck this year......great job on the does though, holy cow first time I have been on a team that has put this much brown down.
NO biggie wiaxle, It sucks that you cant close that distance to a comfortable one for you. One thing I have been trying this year is using ever calm on my boots and at my stand area and all I can say is I am amazed. I have deer foolowing my trail right to the area im in. Hell I even had a yote almost nock me down that ran righ past me while I was at the bottom of my brothers stand waiting to make sure he got up there ok. Another thing I do a lot of this time of year is soft gruntting while light ratteling and have bucks come rumming to see aht is gong on. Good luck and I hope you see him after the orange army hits the woods
