Well I got out today, saw a ton of squirrels, some even climbing around in my tree. Had 5 deer go by at about 40 yards but no shots. Then about 30 minutes before dark had a lone doe come in and meander around for 10-15. She offered me a broadside at about 35 but I am limiting myself to 30 max. Upside is... she managed to get to my tree before dark, walked right up to the base of my tree, looked around, turned around and gave me a quartering away shot at about 8 yards. Slick trick slammed through 1 lung, clipped the other lung, and excited stage right by blowing tthrough the offside leg bone right below the scapula. 40 yard recovery. It was a very good night as the friend I was hunting with also harvested a nice doe. So 50 points to add to the total guys . This was my first bow kill in over 3 years, it was like the very first one all over again I must say, the slick trick did the job but considering how low the exit was there was not much blood trail. Really surprised me, but I like the heads enough to keep using them. I prefer a good solid fixed head over mechs and the slick trick seems to be about the best out there. I sure will. I was doing some looking at work and that looked to be the place to go around there. I like the idea of them planting real food plots sound like a real cool place. I don't know how little rain they got there but hopefully enought to feed the plots. If I do go and I most likely will, I will be by myself. I will be down in branson with a my wife, kids (3mons & 2yr), her mom, and her grandmom, so I will need some time away after about 1 hr of the in-laws. I put your number in my phone and will give you a call as soon as I figure it out so you can have enough time to plan it out. We will be staying Westgate Branson Woods maybe 4 nights if I can convince the wife.
Hey congrats. I told my self if you don't get excited about taken an animal then why do it. Its good to get that feeling my heart pounds everytime.
Thanks man. I agree, every time I take a deer regardless of method I get that excitement, but bowhunting is even more intense.
Good job on the Doe! I am going out this weekend for 2 full days of hunting so hopefully I can put some points up for the team. Chris i am about 45 minutes from the house or if were at the lake so let me know and i am in! I have not been there for several years se we will be going in blind but i might try and make a trip down there before then and do some scouting and see what food plots they have in.
Man i wish i could get out there today. Cool, cloudy, drizzling. And the wind is perfect for my food plot stand. Sent from my LG-E739 using Tapatalk 2
Anyone else going out tomorrow? Looks like it will be a great weekend here. If you are in Illinois don't forget to wear orange this weekend its the youth gun season Sent from my LG-E739 using Tapatalk 2
I'm hunting this evening before the cool front and rain come in. Taking a friends son this weekend during the youth shotgun season, so my weekend hunting will be limited at best.
Good luck whoever makes it out I got put on weekend duty this weekend, so I hope just to make it out once.
Had a doe and fawn come in to 35 yards last night. The doe was acting skittish even though I had the wind in my favor. I didn't attempt a shot at her, let them feed off into my corn field. I'm ready to see some bucks! Good luck to anyone that makes it out this weekend!
I'm up now. This morning i had 4 doe right by me 15 yards. But out was 10 minutes before legal shooting light. They worked their way back to the bedding area. Hope this sit is better Sent from my LG-E739 using Tapatalk 2
Went out this evening. Was very windy with a slight drizzle. Didn't see anything until right at dark. Had 4 deer come in one looked like a decent buck. Was just to dark to see. Any one else see anything?
