Well fellas, we will see how this goes, but I am going to carry my wife and the newborn to our place in west central illinois this weekend and give it a shot. I just can't resist this cold front that is moving through...low of 35 degrees on saturday!! Don't think I will make it to the woods until then.
On my way if you need some company Good luck Buddy should be a good one Sent from my LG-E739 using Tapatalk 2
I didn't know what it was. I was getting out of my stand at 1030 this morning and could see that thing from about 20 yards away. I didn't like getting that close for a pic lol. Thing was bigger than my fist! There are tarantulas all over this area. Especially this year(guess cause it's been so dry?) I usually see them crossing the road. Pretty wild.
Well guys I got out this evening. Hada pretty exciting hunt although no arrows flew. I hunted a small food plot that had a few chinkapin oak acorns dropping around it. The north wind we had was less than ideal but I could work with it. I got a late start, got in the tree at 5, but still had a couple hours to hunt. At 6:19 I had seen nothing, not even a squirrel, I start thinking the north wind was messing me up more than I thought. Then I turn around and there is a deer feeding in the field! As I slowly start getting to my feet and reaching for the bow the deer starts ambling my way. Thats when I find out that ash trees aren't the best to climb because everytime my weight shifted my stand creaked on the corky bark, but he just kept coming in, finally ending up at 8 yards I decided to pass on the small 4 point. I ended up just watching him feed around for the next 15 minutes. Now fast forward to dark.... As I am climbing down the tree is hear a deer blowing and thought I had spooked it, until I heard a limb crack right at the edge of the field. I look up and saw a huge black blob of a bear step out at less than 15 yards. I watched him for a minute as he ambled a few steps my way, then lit him up with the flashlight and politely told him to move his rear outa there. He kindly obliged... right in the direction I had to walk... Iv worked around bears before but this was the first time I had seen one while hunting and was super excited, especially for it to be as big and as close as it was. Hope the rest of yall have a good story to tell as well
Yea I have seen a lot this year as well. I kinda like them though.... That is a very large one if you saw it from that far away though
Sounds like you had a great hunt! Maybe a bigger one will come in next time. I had a deer blow at me tonight never seen it. Dang wind was getting with it! Seeing a bear while hunting is cool!
It just caught my eye before I got down. Was coming down an old log road. Its was plenty big I know that much.
Bears? Huge child eating spiders? No sir! Thought I would like to travel for some hunting, but I got a family to think about. Good luck to you guys. I'll stay down in Alabama, where all we worry about are women that dip, and mild snow.
Lol they see the occasional mountain lion around here also. This is a bear my buddy from work killed this evening. Big ol bore!
Heck man send some of them women that dip out this way I don't mind them, cuz then they can't get on to me for it lol
Nice bear there! I want to take one pretty bad, been a long time dream of mine. What was the weight on it?
Said it came in a little under 300lb. He killed it just across the border in Ark. They have had four big bore coming in on camera every night. Pretty cool.
300 is a dang good bear for this part of the world. I know a guy who took a decent bear in the SE today but no idea on weight. I dont think its anywhere near that beast though. Having bear around just adds another level of excitement to going hunting
He killed a 350 last year. Think he has killed 9 total. Must be nice huh. I haven't seen any that big around big cedar. But I bet there is one or two around. I've ran into several out west elk hunting. They always turn an book it the other way. Def cool to see. Was you a Cookson tonight when you seen that one?
9? lucky man right there. And yea they are around. A 16 yr old girl from the Antlers area took one last year that was well over 500. She was also the first female in the state to kill a bear. Iv never seen a bear out west. Yep on Cookson. I actually work there. Pretty neat setting in the tree listening to elk bugling and seeing deer and bear. Its a pretty awesome little place
Yeah he has a couple hundred acres north of alma(if you know where that is) Ark has had a bear season for a long time. I remember reading about that bear the girl killed. Pretty cool story. Must be nice to work on a WMA. I dislike my office job but it's a Job lol. You go to NSU to or just live in the area?
