Finally saw some horn this season, a spike and 4-5-6 pointer? (it was that memorable) sure hoping that the does that are presenting the gimme shots are still around once the weather gets a bit cooler (prefer not to shoot them when it is still warm at night)

Got another day off tomorrow, will continue the scouting from the stand method :D

No bears tonight, will give it one more try tomorrow than my bear season is over. I did get to watch some does in a field behind my parents house on the walk in from my bait site. I brought my blind with me, i am going to set it up tomorrow in the field so the deer can get used to it. Then on Oct 20 i am hopefully Going to take my nephew to get his first deer in that blind.

Hey fellas...I have had the BEST WEEK EVER. My wife and the grandparents kept pushing me to go hunt for an evening this weekend while we had all of the help around the house...so I went out to some public ground about 40 minutes from my house last night.

1 hr into the sit and I absolutely smoked a doe at 30 yards...right through the pumper. Ran 40 yards and she was down. I ended up having 6-8 does and fauns milling around me for the rest of the night and it was just awesome.

I am going to send Michael the pics so he can post them up for us in the scoring thread.

put up a lock on stand for the first time yesterday. took me three hours. It is on public land and about a five mile hike using the public road system. I got permission from a home owner next to the land about 4 miles in. so everyone else has a 5 mile hike, I have a one mile hike and a stand between cut corn, standing soy and a swamp. I have a pic of a mature buck and plenty of other deer in the area. Hoping for a good first day, all I need is a East wind.

What public land are you hunting? I am guessing Tennessee since our season starts so dang late? I have spent some time in bankhead and hunted all over Walker County. If I still lived in Alabama I would say lets get together and hunt...

I'm hunting Wheeler Wildlife Refuge in Alabama, it is bow hunt only. I like there better, cause I've seen a lot guys with guns on other land that are idiots. Kansas ain't that bad of a drive. We don't start in AL till Oct 15th.

Congrats on the new addition and the doe kill! Looks and sounds like you have a great family! I got to hunt for a couple hours fri. night had 2-8 pointers at 8 yards with video going but just wasn't old enough but it was tempting with the video rolling had 10 does in the field in front of me but none gave me a shot until last light and did not take it, I had just shut the video off and wanted to wait and try to film a kill this year. My wifes Grandmother passed away Saturday so we will spend a few days in Tulsa this week and then in Fayettville Ark. for Bikes Blues and BBQ for the weekend, after that i have nothing planned so i can spend some time in the woods! Good luck everyone!

I love that area up there and have hunted wheeler just one time. I used to spend weeks on end camped out below Wilson Dam and a little below wheeler catfishin. We used to absolutely tear them up. Fish all day then break out the bowfishing rigs if the water wasn't running at night and stay out till 3am. Go back, sleep till about 7am then do it agian. Filled up a couple truckloads full in just a few days before. One of the best areas in alabama IMO.
