I just got permission to hunt a 20 acre lot with mixed woods and fields. Have never been on the property so I don't know about oaks or what the fields look like. Any tips on where to start when it comes to scouting and how many stands you would hang on this small property.

Start with an aerial photo, look for funnels such as where a thin strip of timber runs between 2 fields. If it has ridges look at the topography, things like saddles/benches/ridges. If its as dry there as it is here look for water sources, are they hay fields or is something planted? Get ideas on where you want to scout by looking at the photo, then slip in and check it out. jmo. Congrats on getting a new property to hunt

I have 27 acres that I get to hunt and I have about 10 stands on it,
having a lot of stands is not a bad thing then you can always make sure you never over hunt one of them.
    good luck buddy

Looks like you guys had a fun time Mike. Me and the guys from work go shoot every other Monday. It's always fun to get out and shoot/trash talk with your buds.

Ok guys I know we are all getting ready for ourseasons to start.
In the excitement we sometimes forget to take our 2 pics in different poses for the points.
If you forget to get the pics please do not post it on the official scorecard.
It would suck to lose the points but I do not want it to take away from you glory of the hunt.
Share the pic with us on our thread and just let us know that it was a simple mistake.
    I have done it myself.

Sounds good will do. Does it have to be in the field if I have no one to take picture or could it be when I am at home so I can get the wife to take it? I should have my hunting buddy from work with me most of the time with me but was just wondering if he was not there to help?

Ya I went and hung 4 new stands this past weekend and got poison ivy/oak all up me arms. The worst part of it is I had a long sleeve shirt in the truck and also some ivy block. I just choose to forget about it and got right to work and did not think about it till I got home and was clean out the truck. I had a blond moment. LOL.

I hate that dang poison ivy/oak! Every time the wind blows I get covered in it. Best thing to treat it is a steroid shot right in the @SS :)

Well i am up in a tree in a swampy area behind an apple orchard. It would be great if there was not a herd of jamaicans picking apples and making a racket. They should be done soon. I have seen a ton of acorns on my way in. I think the deer are going to be hard to locate with all of the natural food they have at there disposal.

I checked my trail cams last night. I had to check them on my blue ray player, my card reader crapped out on me. Tons of does and fawns on the pics. Only had 3 bucks on the cams, all basket racks. I am starting to see some nice bucks while glassing though.

Ok finally got the lease property last night. Ended up with 320 acres, Got 2 stands hung and shooting lanes cleared but no cameras out yet. We seen around 25 deer on our way out a mix between bucks, does and fawns, Got within 10 yards of 2 does bedded down and they did not spook real bad when they got up, so I don't think there is alot of pressure there. Hopefully this will be a good year, just wished we could have got it all put together a couple months ago.

No deer sightings yesterday, as usual in Maine. Hunting the midwest the last 3 years has ruined my Maine hunting. My scouting at home has really been effected. I hope to get a doe here, but I plan on contributing some points when I get back to Kansas nov 9th.

Dmen its all about you and your time in the woods.
Points for the team would be great but just getting out and enjoying the woods is better
