Haha, I forgot all about it actually. Ever since I got my iPhone I don't even get on the computer. I will try and change it back to the back-to-back champs avatar tonight Sent from my pocket computer using Tapatalk
TOm have you ever gotten split brow in a daylight pic? Cole, its simply a matter of time for you....lucky dog. I've been busy at work lately getting ready to auction off some bison, so deer have been an afterthought, but soon I'll be back to it. Did have one decent card pull.
I am beginning to wonder of like the Fergie clause we need to put in a Cole-clause. Everytime you see a P&Y buck and don't shoot you have to deduct 1 point from the buck you finally do shoot. Cole would probably still pull in bucks worth 140 points....but atleast it'd even it up some haha! I can't wait to see the stud he gives a nap to!
Team I'm currently waiting out the down pour but as soon as good ol mother nature lets up I will be on stand.
I have gotten pics of the split brow during daylight a few times this year and a number of times in the past. I have been waiting patiently for the right time to go in when I think I can kill him. I am not going to take any chances on messing it up. You dont get many chances on 200" deer and I hope to make the most of it.
I am calling it, not for me but for the team, The first buck is going down this weekend! Good luck to every one going out this weekend. I am going out and my plan is to put a HellRazor through the Split Brow buck on Saturday night on film
Craig- those are some big deer. I'd love to shoot that last one! Tom- I hope you kill that thing, I want to see that rack at the G2G next year Ty- I definitely don't think we should do that lol, so far I would have lost 3 points out of 4 sits! This season is way different than last year, the only decent buck I saw was the one I shot! Did you ever get out Tony? The radar looked like you got a lot of rain. Anybody else in a tree lately? Good luck guys!! Tom, I really wanna see a trophy pic of you with the split brow buck. 9 more days til I can get in a tree
I screwed up guys! I was fortunate enough to get out of work Thursday early enough to make the 2.5 hr drive to the property I hunt in WI. The wind was perfect for a stand that is the on the south side of a very thick thicket that is a huge bedding area. I placed my stand and was in it less than :30 minutes when I saw a 130" class 8 pointer coming my direction. This is literally the 2nd largest deer I have ever seen on this property so my plan was to take him. He walked straight to my tree from 80 yds out. As he stood below my tree (East side of it) he was scent checking....possibly getting just a hint that I was around. He turned to look at a doe with 2 fawns also heading my direction so I drew my bow. I waited, but he would not move from directly below me so I eventually let down. Just then a hickory nut fell hitting every branch on the way down and he bolted about 15 yds, but in a direction that I could not shoot. Just then he turned and came back to me so I drew again. This time he took the North side of my tree, but stopped so he was just about 6-7' from the tree. I do not like that angle, but I released. Not thinking clearly I held my 20 yd pin on him and the shot went high, but still angled well in the vitals. The doe with the fawns did not leave, instead she meandered into a 15 yd shooting lane so I drew on her. I then decided that I really did not want to drag out 2 deer on a day that I began work early working a full day then drove 2.5 hrs so I let down. She wandered off with his kiddos. As I climbed down I removed my stand and steps and packed them into my truck which was literally less than 80 yds from my thru the corn to my South. I grabbed a flashlight and easily found blood thru the thicket. Then, I heard movemen ahead of me so I decided it was best to back out until later or Friday AM. I spent the evening in my truck with literally no sleep 'cause I was excited to lay my hands on this buck. As I got to the property at first light it began to rain even though meterologist in Madison, WI said Thursday night it was not supposed to rain until the PM. I got back on the blood trail and then just lost it in the pouring rain. I spent the remainder of yesterday grid searching every part of that thicket and never smelled him or saw him. There were no 'yotes calling out in the AM or PM and no crows/vultures circling the area. With the blood that I had Thursday evening there is no way that buck survived, but I have no idea where he went unless he somehow escaped in the corn which I did walk the perimeter of the thicket out to about 15 rows. I have never been so angry, depressed and dissappointed in my 25 years of deer hunting. Sorry guys!
Man that sux Rizzo! Any chance to get a cpl more people to go back and search some more? Hate for you to not recover that deer
Is their a creek on this piece of property Mike? If so follow it! Also every deer I have had the track with exception of 1 has always circled around and ended up dead almost behind me from where I shot it. Good luck man and keep us posted. See if you can get some help from a local to search.
The creek is dried up and is 500-600 yds into another property. I spoke last night with that landowner to let them know I hit a decent buck and to please call me if they come across him. I saw no sign that indicated that he entered that property, but who knows. I am not able to get back to the property again this weekend as I have family obligations here back at home. I reached out to the landowner to see if one of his 5 boys could help, but they couldn't. Also, I sent a message to a BH.com member who lives nearby to see if he could help at the last minute, but he had to work 'til nearly dark last evening. Sick to my stomach is an understatement guys.
Head up Mike! Did you ever find the arrow or any idea how much penetration you got. Depending on how high you hit, might you have hit above the spine and into the backstraps? Tough to get penetartion there. And did you shread your camo clothes looking for him?.......ok I had to add that.
I put on my rain coat and a pair of camo denim pants. The coat made it thru pretty well....the pants not so great. It looks like I got stuck in a barbed-wire fence. I might go back out tomorrow with a couple of guys to look around some more. The meat will be bad for sure, but I can at least say that I found him. Gotta try to cancel something with the wife first.....
