Team 27 - Fall Legends!

Ya it was because right after I shot it it poured. But I had my blood tracking dog Cooper and he found exactly where the deer entered the woods and it took him 4 minutes to find. We would not have found that deer until the next day if it wasn't for him.

I got a buck this morning. Wooo Hooo more points for our team.
He gave me a 16.5 yard slightly quartering away shot, and ran 59.5 yards from my tree and I watched him expire.
Turns out I heart shot him
I scored him at 149 3/8
I will get him entered in the official scorecard for our team in the morning, right now Im so tired I can hardly keep my eyes. open.

Should be able to get three half day sits next week. Two in PA and one on what is supposed to be a good VA property.

I haven't got out as much this year from the baby who will be 6 weeks old this coming Sunday... But, I have had some good hunts this year. Here are few cell phone pics of some of the bucks I have had come in.

First buck of the year. Decent on one side, but the other side was deformed and smaller.



Fourth buck of the season, great genetics on this guy... He could be a monster one day.



Buck I saw the night before last.. At first glance through the foliage I thought he might be one I was interested in but decided to let him go after a better look. Photo doesn't quite do him justice. He is a upper 120's to low 130's 8 point.



So thus far I have saw 4 does and 6 bucks in 7 sits. Two sits I did not see anything.

Buckeye, that is awesome. Seeing that many bucks in early October must be great.

Any common factor (s) as to why you believe you are getting bucks so close to your stand?

Headed to the cabin this weekend going to be up in the tree with my girl again this weekend hopefully she gets one tomorrow morning and it will be my turn. This might be the last weekend I'm dedicating my time to filming her as I would really like to cover more ground instead of sitting in the same tree.

I will be heading up in just a couple hours and hope to be in a stand in the morning - otherwise for sure tomorrow night! The weather has been so crappy lately on the weekends that I have only had 2 sits this season so far. Last year at this time I already had my doe and got my buck on Oct 19th. I am hopeful for this weekend Good Luck to everyone!

 

Yes sir. Know your bucks bedding areas and where the white oaks are. Get between those beds and the white oaks.

Finding the oaks is easy, the challenge is figuring out the bedding areas... Then figuring out the buck bedding areas from the doe bedding areas. Then trying to decipher which of those areas the older bucks are more likely to use.

I didn't forget about your last PM I will try to get to it after my hunt this evening.

AS far as getting them that close, its just a knack I have I guess. I haven't shot a buck over 10 yards in years. I will think it over and break down my shot distances later.. Got to get in the shower and head out.

Good luck Melissa. It has been raining here for 5 straight days. The hunting should really open up when the weather breaks....I bet it does the same for you. I have a good feeling about many of you alls chances this weekend.
