I am almost ready!! Got three stands up and one to go. First year with a food plot so eager to see what happens. This will be my second year hunting so I'm excited to get out and up in a tree. Good luck to Wisconsin hunters.

Kind of bummed out. 12,000 photos and that's the biggest buck I could find. Not good. Neighbors are saying the same thing. I can only hope that this is a good omen as we have had bruises on cams many times before only never to see them come fall. Hopefully the opposite will be true this year.

Guarding a creek crossing in the river bottoms. Hoping to catch something coming back from the bean fields to the northwest.

No deer seen this morning. Full moon makes it tough but I gotta hunt when I can. Last week I mentioned I saw a big ten pointer in the dark by a boat launch to a little oxbow slough. I decided to go after him this afternoon. I suspected he was close to his bed when I saw him at 5:15 a.m. Tues morning. I had a rare northeast wind today and tried to make a move on him. I quietly parked by the boat launch and eased into a little finger of woods next to the slough. I planned to go up the first straight tree and hope he would show before dark. 40 yards from the truck I stepped on him in his bed. Never dreamed he was that close to the road. He looked bigger in the daylight. Solid deer with mass and good tine length. Backed out And hunted a spot about 1/4 mile south of there and saw nothing. I now know exactly where he's bedded but he may be near impossible to set up on. I may have to set up on the ground in the warm season grass plantings that border the slough. Gotta love public land bucks.

Just an update from me so far, I've only been out 2x's this year. I've only had a coyote in range and it caught me drawing on it. I've seen several does and one small buck all out of range This buck is still showing up. I believe i'm closing in on his bedding area. I need to figure this out before they cut the corn in the next couple weeks. Then it will back to the drawing board on him. Heading out tomorrow night. IMG_0310.jpg

Well I passed on 5 doe in hopes of getting a chance at this buck. Well I watched him for about 45 minutes in the crp. Crazy thing the whole time I saw him wasn't really going anywhere. I bet he traveled 25 yards in 45 minutes. No trees within 50 yards of him. Great hunt and I will be putting a doe down in the next couple weeks.

I have not hunted an opener for over 25 years. Tomorrow I am hosting the first annual doe bash at one of my properties. Some great friends and I will all sit in a big blind with hopes of filling several does tags. I need to take at least 20 off this property and thought this might start a fun tradition. I hope to throw 50 points on the board very soon.
