A few young ones. I have found a couple of good ones that I hope to get a look at with a bow in my hand.
Set up in a funnel deep in on public land. Reminded myself why I don't climb hackberries. Perfect spot if I don't slide 3 feet down the trunk when I draw.lol. Saw a nice 10 point at the boat launch in the dark. Hopefully they're still on their feet. 20 minutes til shooting light.
Well. Nice morning to be out. No deer seen after daylight. Heading to another place to scout this afternoon. I've set three times without a deer sighting. I've got to do something different.
The temps make it tough this time of the year. And mornings are always tough in the early season. You have no easy task.
Went to my lease yesterday. I have some big bucks working in there. Tons of doe and also hogs! I can't wait till Oct 1. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
Agreed. I don't even start to get excited until the third week of October. Its not unusual for me to not even hunt until the first of November. I like to know that my time in the woods has a good chance of being productive. Otherwise, I feel like I should be doing something else.
same here Fletch. i wonder how many stands i've burnt out by hunting to early?? i most likely wont hit a deer stand till mid/late oct. will be bear hunting this next week. got some piggies hanging around.
Dad has a new heated custom made by me 4x6 to rough it in LOL.........he's earned it. Food plots look amazing for a summer of almost no rain. Thank you Northeast Whitetail Seed!! Acorns everywhere already. 12,000 photos to go through so hopefully some good bucks snooping around.
Thanks man.......built it for dad because he wants to be in the woods more. You can see the original Death Star we built him in the back of the brassica plot pic. He is an old hot seat on a log or milk crate in the woods with open sights 870 guy at heart but as the years went by the 90 minute drive each way and lunch on the tailgate got to be rough on him and he started to fade. He raised us all hand in hand from boys to men in the deer woods so we weren't about to let him throw in the towel. We always fought it out on the battlefields known as New York State land so we figured it was time for an upgrade for us all. 350 acres and a cabin in some of the nicest deer land NY has to offer and dad was back in the game. His body continued to quit long before he was ready and he was cold when it wasn't cold......I came to get him one day with my coat over my shoulder and he was shivering like it was 10 below. I could tell by the look in his eye he was done but just didn't have the heart to tell his boys. No chance I let that happen if I have the resources to avoid it. I grabbed my brothers the next day and told them and 2 seconds later plans were under way. We broke ground on 4 acres of food plots and built the Death Star. 8x8 and 16 feet up. Fully insulated and heated as warm as you want it. He was so happy he couldn't think straight.......killed some bucks out of there and all that good stuff but it was like watching a lion in a zoo. He was happy, cozy and fine but you just knew in your heart he would rather be in the wild. Dad missed the woods and everything that come with it......sights and sounds. So over the winter I framed up a 4x6 and got some siding on it and a roof then some elevators and few 4x12's.........and 10 hrs of work later he is back in the woods and so excited he barely slept last night thinking about his new spot. The best part is he was out there with us all 10 hrs busting his butt to help even more then we should have let him. He is 70. This will be my 30th year in the woods with my dad. If there is a better gift in life I'm not sure what it would be.
Love it Atlas. The place looks perfect! Enjoy him for every minute you can. Good luck to him this year.
My shooting is rock solid this year. Went back to the drawing board......arrow after arrow slamming into the target accurately. Its all on me.....
