Heading in to the woods about 4pm today at my in-laws. They bought a new house this year in the country with some acreage, but it really only has an acre that can be bow hunted. My father in law said there are some white oaks dropping behind the house which is great.

I hunted today and yesterday. Seen deer both days. Couldn't get a shot on a doe. The bucks I seen were small. I had a fork horn at 25 yards that I just watched for a while. I was really itching to shoot that dude. Back to work for a few days now.

Doe is entered. That was the first time I have hunted opening day since I was in college. The last time I killed a deer on opening day was 30 years ago. Life got just a little too busy in the middle years for sure. lol. The norm for me has been to start hunting in very late October or some years not a single hunt until November. As an empty nester, things are changing some. I actually had 4 buddies sitting in the blind with me and we had a blast. They were drinking a little. I was at full draw on a doe early in the hunt and one of them yells, "Are you on her!", intentionally blowing her out of there. Later, we all started laughing so loud that we cleared an entire 20 acre hay field! The guys finally kept quiet long enough to let me center punch a big old doe at 15 yards and make a short recovery. We saw over 50 deer total and I need to take a LOT more does.

When we got to the farm on Sunday it started raining. We decided not to hunt since we had no rain gear and had to walk through the corn and wud get soaked. Next weekend.

Went to help my good friend track a doe last night on one of our leases. We walked up to the stand with our flashlight and there were 3 BIG bucks and probably 12 doe standing there. Couldn't believe it. I'm headed back out around 3pm today.
