Well nothing . Rained Sunday morning. My next time in a stand won't be till the thanksgiving cause I just started a new job but I've still got time. Lots going on here that was unexpected you know how things can be when you got kids. There's still lots of season left for me. Good luck to all today Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Had a bobcat and then I heard a buck grunt but I could get him to move to me , don't know exactly where he was Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
No, it's about a 6 or 7 minute walk to the stand. I've still got the grunt call and can call, and put scent wicks out.
Had two doe and two bucks come though. The one buck was bumping the does, also have my target buck on multiple cams. Mostly just after dark but he showed at a scrape 10/30 at 10:21am. Figures I was working!
I'll probably sleep in tomorrow morning and start mid morning and do an all dayer then. Looks like rain will quit around 9-10. Get in stand after that and see what happens. Still no sightings here. Probably get down about noon and get back out a little after 2.
Just saw one. Not sure what it was, too much brush. Grunt call stopped it, bleat turned it in different direction. May be trying to circle down wind, not sure.
Well, I will be getting out next Monday morning for sure. I am off work for Veteran's Day and will hunt all day until I kill or have to leave to coach my son's BBall practice. I am trying to work it out so that I can leave work early either Thursday or Friday and hunt the afternoon as well. My weekend is too busy with family stuff again this coming weekend.
Cold and wet here in NE Kansas this morning. Saw nothing Saturday evening, 5 does yesterday morning, and nothing yesterday evening. Buddy saw a shooter chasing a doe yesterday evening. Unfortunately it was over on property we can’t hunt... We’re going to check out another place around lunch and make a game plan for this evening. Everyone here is thinking Tuesday on will be hot. Nice! Just had a very very wide 10 behind me a 40yds with no shot, this is the best day hunting I had in a while. The best is yet to come !! Good luck fellas.
Got down to re group. Going to try a run and gun set up here shorty. My spot this morning was dead. On my way out I saw a stud running across a cut bean field in the wide open.
Just scored a pair of binoculars for cheap aince mine broke! Sent from my SM-G892A using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I’d like y’alls opinion on hunting this stand. Usually I don’t hunt it unless I have a N or NW wind. Ignore the orange border, that’s a property line, I have permission on surrounding parcels also Red- the routes deer enter the field Blue - N or NW wind takes my scent out across the cut bean field. Black- entry and exit route I take. My question is would you hunt this stand on any other wind? Meaning would you sacrifice one side or another? Say if the wind is out of the SW? I’m guessing there is bedding on both east and west sides of the planted trees. Sometimes I do have an occasional deer travel through the small pinch of timber my stand is in. It’s narrow enough my scent goes over them.
To me that stand looks like the other wind directions would be better than the N/NW wind, unless I'm reading it the wrong way.
I personally would not hunt it on SW wind, not without a creek or river to suck the thermals down into the water. Although with a wind speed that is fast enough to override the thermals, it may work depending on how high in the tree you are. If the wind is steady over 12 mph and you are 25 feet up or more, it might work for a SW. A NE or E wind, it might work at slower winds speeds. You would not be sacrificing as much potential bedding with the scent if the wind speeds are slower than I suggested. Is there somewhere further north where you could set up on a S wind?
