Tomorrow morning will be my grandsons first rut hunt. I told him to be prepared for action at any time.
I saw 10 bucks, a few repeats, all film. Most action was between 11-12. Filmed a real nice 7 my buddy didn’t wanna shoot. This evening I already had a doe roll past me, gonna be a good night. Good luck everyone! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Can anybody guess what I saw? If you guessed little buck then you win! And also saw doe and 2 fawns. I’ll be out tomorrow at some point.
I passed a decent 9pt today, today was the start to my 12 day hunting vacation, I’ll be back and forth hunting Ohio and Pa. Had bucks chasing this morning and this evening, nothing mature yet. Just need that one doe to turn. Any luck on your buck Shawn?
No luck and none of the neighbors saw it either. This coming week most of the adjoining properties will have 2-4 bowhunters so who knows. Didn't see any buzzards today.
Man that’s awful, guessing you gridded every price of land you could?was it one of the bucks your had on cam? I’m packing up for my trip today, good luck to all who’s out.
I believe it was the one I call Monster 8. Only where I was shooting through I couldn't see his rack perfectly so it could have been a different deer. I do know for sure though he was very big bodied and a very big rack.
After going back over the shot yesterday I did determine I probably hit him low. One I underestimated the yardage. I was thinking it was 30 and it was closer to 30. I'm going to send 3 pics showing my shot and view. The first pic is without any markings. I shot between 2 pine branches and he was standing back by the skinny tree.
This pic shows the branches I shot between. If you look in the middle of that red circle you will see a skinny tree. To the circle was about 22 yards and to the skinny tree was 18 yards. So, 40 yards. But he was standing probably 1-2 yards in front of that tree so between 38 and 39 yards. So is it possible it was a low brisket shot and he just bled a lot. I know I posted a good pic of some blood that was bubbly but the thing that gets me is how the arrow barely had any blood on it at all.
Dunno that’s weird, with the looks of that pic it def got a little lung. Been there before, it sucks replaying it back a million times. It’s hard to judge distance between gaps like that too.
Ok, so this was a new crossbow and the speed is 350-360. Could that be the reason there wasn't much blood on the arrow. I'm probably grasping at straws but I'm really wanting to believe he lived. Like I said over the years I've seen bucks, in particular, take for sure what I thought was a kill shot and they lived. I'm sure some of you guys that have been hunting awhile have seen that as well.
I don’t speed has anything to do with blood on the arrow or not, was it a pass through? If it went into the ground or through pine/brush then blood could have got cleaned off of it.
It was a pass through and was in the ground, but vanes were not in ground and had very little blood on them. Blood trail was strong and good for nearly 3/4 of a mile then it stopped abruptly and the last spot of blood we saw was a thick clotted drop. There wasn't always the bubbly blood on the trail, but every so often, I'd say 4 to 5 times we saw spots like that pic I posted. We did not find any spot where he laid down and we picked his trail up about 1 1/2 hours after I shot him. After the initial shot when he ran off it seemed like he was walking the whole way blood was consistently close and good.
That’s a stud, I was following his team thread waiting to see if he recovered. I’m glad he did that’s an amazing buck. Congrats to him!
