I will still be going out. Not sure how often it will be but my family could use the meat. I will keep trying until the season ends in February. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I’ll be setting up a new ground blind tomorrow. I don’t know yet if I want to sit in it this weekend or give it a week for the deer to get used to. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
How many of you have been lucky enough to tag a nice buck in the late season with a bow? In all my years of hunting I have killed one nice buck in the late season. Actually I killed 2 cause one I thought was a doe was actually a shed buck and boy did it have big bases.
Last 3 years I’ve killed a buck Dec. 25th or later. My biggest buck I got on Dec. 30th. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I guess that sounds worse than what it is. Mostly over the 20 plus years I already had my buck so I wasn't after a buck in most late seasons But with that said I rarely ever saw a decent buck those years that I was just after does. So 3 or 4 of those years I was actually after a buck in which one of those years I got one with a rack and unfortunately one without a rack.
This is the latest in the season that I have never shot anything. Usually I have a couple of does in the freezer if not a buck. If I manage a buck this year it will be the latest I have killled one. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I actually enjoy the late season sits. I have a few ground blinds setup and I’ll put corn out and completely stay out of the woods unless I’m sneaking in for the final 2 hours or so. It’s one of the best chances at killing a mature buck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yep, exactly what I do. Basically stick to evenings over corn or something else and wait til the last 2 hours. Also hunting the fronts.
My corn is out infront of two elevated blinds. One property setup for south/east winds and the other for north/west winds. This cold snap should be good for getting the deer to get on my feed. I’m gonna recheck my cams on Sunday and load up on the corn again then. It’s looking like this is my survivor list. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
And I must say boys, we had a good run here but were gonna need 5 more buck at the minimum and a few does to even have a chance at this point. Team 27 is killing it with over 1000 points. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Its not looking real good for me guy usually I have deer down by now. Sorry about that guy's. Season is almost over an freezer is still empty. May be pulling out the smoke pole Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Tapatalk
I'm anxious to get out and see who my survivors are! I've been laid up with foot surgery so maybe in the next week or two I'll be able to get out there! Sent from my SM-G955U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I haven't checked cams in awhile. I'm sure batteries are drained. Time to change batteries, look at anything on the cards, and get amped up for late season.
Yeah I’m working on finding a shooter. Found one and of course he has half a rack. Check out that Roman nose.
With Christmas season upon us, I am not sure how much more I will get out until January. Was planning on hunting this Saturday morning. The temps look amazing with a high of 39 for the day. Unfortunately, I have to run by a salvage yard and pick up parts that my dad bought for my brother's Bronco as a Christmas present. My boys have basketball at 11 and noon Saturday. The salvage yard closes at noon so I have to go first thing in the morning. I have dropped my standards as far as bucks are concerned. I was holding out for something 110 or bigger since that would be a step up for me as far as archery bucks are concerned. This is the latest in the season I have gone in 8 years without at least killing a doe. Any doe or the first legal buck in range from this point on is getting shot.
Hahah. You damn right it will! Heading up to my buddy’s camp in Bennezette Pa this weekend, there all doing deer drives so I’m gonna break out my rifle for the first time of the year. It’s gonna be nice to change the pace up, relax and drink some beers. It’s the last weekend in Pa before late season, I’ll be out tom morning tho around home with my bow to try to tag out.
I know most of us has used corn piles. Has anyone ever tried sugar beets, and what were your results? I can get 50 pound bags for 8 bucks. I'd like to try them. I've always heard good things about them.
I just put out 100lbs of sweet feed. I’ve found they hammer that stuff way harder than just the corn. It has corn in it but also has some molasses. But I do the same type of set up for the late season. I actually still have one field of standing beans on one of my properties so I’m praying every day that they don’t get cut lol. Here’s my recent setup next to the beans.
