    Good luck, Peak!

Just checked my cams for the last time before the season. One BIG time shooter, and two other solid bucks I haven't seen all summer.

Been a rough week here, the farm I hunt is 100% different from the last couple of years. Normally I can set my watch by the doe movements but with crop rotation, fields that use to be wild now in crops and a big pasture completely gone wild I can't seem to figure them out. They are starting to shell around here so in a few weeks the corn will be gone and I will have access to a few more of my favorite spots but until then I'm just as frustrated as you all who haven't started yet!

Great looking bucks guys. I'm not getting anything at all as far as shooters on my cameras. There is only one buck I might consider shooting. The good news is that I do have several great looking 2.5s and 3.5s for the coming years. I sure hope some big boys come out of hiding in late October. Meanwhile I'm still struggling to knock down a doe. Hope to put one down tonight, it's a beautiful evening to be in the stand.

I'm just as frustrated here. The only difference here is that the deer won't come to beans! I have no idea why, but they would rather browse in the woods than come to these beans. The main place I hunt has a couple giant bean fields and there have been no deer at all on them. I can't understand what the deal is.

Are the acorns dropping heavy there yet? Our white oaks are dropping and that is bringing in some deer in the next few weeks they will all be dropping and the corn will be down then hopefully its game on. I've never had great luck with beans by the time our season starts a lot of the beans are yellow and don't attract the deer near as much as corn/acorns.

So I shot a doe tonight and am sick to my stomach. I thought that I smoked her, and could've swore I heard her crash. So I got down and there was no blood anywhere and found gut on the broken half of my arrow I found. I shot her around six, so I'm heading back in a couple hours with my dog to see if I can find her. I know that I had to catch at least one lung with my shot, so I'm praying she isn't too far. I don't know, I have a bad feeling about this. Really hope to find her before morning so she doesn't spoil. I'm so sick right now.

Anything you guys know I can do to find a deer in the dark without blood, other than use a dog?

I would wait until the AM at sun up bro.
Get some help and try to remember the last spot you had seen her and go from there.

In a great mood this morning other than being extremely tired. When I went back to find my deer last night my dog found her right away. I had hit her exactly where I thought I did, but the shot angle was steep and my arrow came out thru her guts. So that is why there was no blood, because the exit hole was completely plugged. I was close to finding her yesterday evening, but with no blood and how thick it was I just couldn't do it. I'm so proud of my dog, she did a great job and found her within 10 minutes. She'll be getting some treats today. I'll post some pics later, I've got to get the deer out of the cooler and finish working her up first though.

Congrats, Jake! I had that exact same thing happen to a buck I shot a few years ago. Angled through the lungs and out part of the gut. The guts plugged the exit and there was no blood. Deer was dead 150yds away. Chest cavity was full of blood.
