Speaking of shooting bows. What is everyone's comfort zone, yardage wise? The furthest out I shot a buck was last year at 35 yards. I practice at 20, 30 & 40 yards so 30 - 35 yards is pretty comfortable for me.
In ideal conditions I would shoot up to 50. I don't have a doubt in my mind I can make a killing shot every time at that distance but the animals behavior is what makes the difference.
My comfort zone is 40 but rarley would I take that shot. The last 3 days I have been practicing out to 70. It makes 20 30 and 40 seem easy after awhile!
I've killed a deer at 43 yards. I think that is pretty much my max unless absolute perfect conditions and I was sure it would not move until my arrow arrived. I need to get out and practice more. Unfortunately it's not like riding a bike. I'm in the middle of launching a new assembly line at work and taking over duties for a manager that left, so there hasn't been any bow time recently. I'm hoping to change that with the long weekend though.
30 yards. Too many variables and things out of my control in hunting situation as opposed to target practice, especially on a whitetail as opposed to less athletic or skittish game such as elk or muleys.
Did some updates on my rig. French tuned it, and bareshaft tuned. Got a bullet hole through paper on the first shot and broadheads are hitting with fieldpoints. First 40 yard group as well.
I have come to the conclusion that I hate multi pins. Have been shooting a single pin for years and tried two different multi pin sights this summer. Could not shoot well with either and had no confidence. Glad I made the switch before season.
It's adjustable, but I leave it at 25 for hunting and can shoot up to 40 with some hold over. And it's only a couple inches high at 10. It helps to shoot a fast bow
I used to practice up to 90 yards. this year I haven't been shooting much but made some adjustments to my bow. ill be shooting 70 yards before the season starts. need to site my rig in again. hope to get it done this weekend. my max kill is at 50 yards. hope to be confident to shoot that by the beginning of this season.
Good news for me, I was cleaning out some gear at work and came across a brand new Leupold RX-IV range finder. Can't beat free. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hello fellas, just wanted to stop in and say good luck this season. Hunt hard and above all HUNT SAFE!
I'm going to try to make it down to the shop today. Need to fletch a couple arrows up, play with the new bows and do a little shooting. I was able to get out the day before yesterday to get a few arrows flying. It's either been stupid hot or pouring down rain. My season starts Oct 1 but I don't think I'll be out there quite yet. No good buck movement during the day yet.
The scoreboard is up but I believe they unlock it on sep 1. My season starts this saturday. I cant wait!
