Blood stained vanes is an awesome team name, i like it! As far as work on hunting land goes, for me its done after the season! I hunt very large tracks of timber so scouting and shed hunting and placing stands and trimming is as far as it goes for me. We dont do plots on our lease, its strip mine ground and would cost a fortune to get the soil up to par!
I just have my 2 man stand to hang. We threw seed tonight. 2 plots done, need seed for one more. We ran out. Will finish this weekend. 6 different bucks on trail cams. Biggest is a 9, 2 could be shooters.
Got my plots in on time. here is a pic of one. Finally got a of a nice buck. Will be redone some mineral stations before the season but that's it. will have to post pics later. Wont allow me to press the done button on my phone for this site. Glad they are forcing me to buy tapatalk to post on here.
So what does everyone do away from hunting? I'm an engineer at a forklift manufacturer. I have twin 6 year old girls. I was born and raised in central Indiana. I often travel out of the country for fork (mainly Japan and Brazil). In my "spare time" I make duck calls. I've been doing that since the spring and finally yesterday have one that sounds like a quality call.
Oh, I have this guy on cam. He should be pretty good. In the past my issue has been going after 1 target buck, even if it means eating tag soup. This year, the strategy is different. I'll shoot any buck I deem is "good", not just a monster. I've let 250 inches of deer walk in the last 2 years. They were up close and personal, shots, all within about 10 yards and the deer had no idea I was there. Just dumb. Not this year though.
I do corporate sales at a NASCAR track. Have only had one camera out this year, and have only seen one small buck. I know they are around though. Our season starts Monday here in Delaware, so I'm loooking forward to getting in a tree. Just hope it cools down!
I'm a project manager for a commercial glass company. I have a 2 year old daughter and a baby on the way (due December 5th). I had one big boy on camera but rumor has it that he got hit by a car last week. I'll have to check the cameras to see if he's still with us. Other than that we have a couple other decent bucks roaming around. I'll work on getting pictures posted.
Anyone care to refresher my memory on how to add an avatar to my profile?? Never mind, I figured it out.
Ill get my avater changed tomorrow, sucks doing it from phone! Looks great! Im a maint mechanic for Duke Energy coal fired power plant. Going on 29 years! Im married, have 3 kids and fabricate things and engrave rocks on the side !
Waded through soaking wet cornfields this morning to put out some cams before it got in the 90's, was 69 earlier after daylight! Nice pic's guys! Kill em dead!
Here are a few of the nicer bucks I have gotten pictures of so far this summer. I've been glassing a lot of real good bucks near public land also which is where I'm going to focus a ton of my time this fall.
Went squirrel hunting and did a little scouting yesterday. Did not see to much deer sign but the ground has been pretty dry. The neighbor who lives next door to the property said he saw about 10 deer coming out from the around the same area. He saw the 8 point he got a picture of and said he saw a 10 point he has never seen before. Several does as well. The other neighbor kid took off on his 4 wheeler and they ran off only to return within 15 min like it never happened. I'll be heading out next to check things out again. Hopefully the weather cools down a little bit, it has been hot and humid and I was sweating my butt off last night. I'm pretty sure I know the paths they are taking to get to this field.
I need to refill my feeders and check cams this weekend. We'll see. I'll probably only go up on top of the hill 2 more times before season. 1 time to check cameras and the plot and 1 time to cut a path to my tree and rehang my stand. I'm feeling really good about this season!!!
Just wanted to keep convo going since its been quiet here lately. Season starts here in Delaware on Monday, forecast is for a high of 90! I'll be out, but it will take the perfect situation for me to shoot something. My walk back in is close to a mile, so its a long drag in the heat! Shot the bow last night, feeling pretty good, just hunting a new tract of land and don't know what to expect.
