My name is harrison and i am 16 and have been bowhunting for the past 2 years but have been deer hunting since i was 9at by myself. The biggest deer i have ever killed had 4to points and was heavy on one side but only had a thick spike on the other. He weighed 180 when we put him on the scales, it was with my rifle but would have been a perfect bow shot, only fifteen yards quartering away. But i hope to get a few deer with my bow this year and help the team out. Also im from carlisle, sc about 800 people in the town but in union county with about 30000 in the county total. Our county has the most dense deer population in the state but not very many big deer just a lot.
My name is Tyler, I have been bowhunting since age 16. I am 42 and married for 10 years now. Bowhunting is my passion! If I had to give up everything and have only one hobbie, it would be bowhunting! I live near Piedmont SD which is between Rapid City and Sturgis. I have a very demanding job, I work for the Rapid City water dept. I fix watermains that blow in any wheather and any time of day or night. I consider myself to be very lucky to live and hunt in the Black Hills of South Dakota. During archery season I hunt some area in the hills where I can hunt all day and not see another hunter. But my favorite to bowhunt is Fort Meade Rec area which is east of Sturgis. The reason I hunt this 8000 acre area is because its archery only and closed to motor vehicles! This place is a mix of prairie, rolling hills, canyons, and steep ridges. Ponderosa pine and white oaks dominate the landscape. If I dont feel like hiking up into the heavily timbered pine covered ridges, I can hunt one of 3 creekbottoms that head out onto the prairie. Hunting pressure there has increased alot over the last few years, but there's still plenty of room to roam. My biggest buck scored about 135 but every year I see some that go over 150. My goal this year is to top my biggest and try to get him in the month of oct. I drew a hills rifle tag this year and want to fill that tag in nov.
Hey guys, my name is Jacob. I'm 21 and have been bowhunting for 8 years now. Didn't actually put my first deer on the ground till I was 15 when I shot a 150" with a shotgun. Haven't laid any big bucks down with the bow yet, but I've had some close encounters. Hoping my luck changes this year! I'm hunting NE Ohio in Portage County. I'm hunting the transition area between the suburbs and the rural areas. I've got a couple spots less than 10 acres to hunt and then a couple with about 30 acres. Nothing huge, but there are some big bucks running around. I'll also spend a weekend or two hunting some public land down in Central Ohio to mix things up. Hoping to lay one down this year with my new Diamond Iceman FLX!
My names Aaron M. I'm 26 and from southern Wisconsin. For work, I do SEO and SEM for a company out of Madison, WI. I've been bowhunting since I was 10, the first two years sitting in the stand as my dad hunted obviously. I've never shot anything BIG with the bow, but I've put a lot of them on the ground. We've got some HUGE bucks on camera this fall and I'm really looking forward to tomorrow morning. Good luck guys and go THWACK PACK!
Good luck this weekend Aaron! I'm definitely jealous as I won't be out in the woods for a few weeks yet. Tomorrow I'm going to check trail cams and finish hanging my last stand, then Sunday I'm going to scout a little public ground I got drawn to hunt in October. It's not hunting, but at least it gets me out in the field for a while.
My season starts tomorrow! After no rain almost all summer, it's rained the past 2 days with a good chance of it lasting through Monday. We make get a short break from it in the morning. I get off work at 4am and may try to take a cat nap before I hit the woods. Our season lasts Sept 15- Feb 28, so it's a long one. My vacation is already approved for the last week in October.
One week to go! Checked cams yesterday and scouted out a creekbottom where I think my #1 is holed up. Sure enough, I bumped him from 60 yards. He was bedded next to a blowdown so I found a spot close by for my pop-up. There is an old oak that would be a good tree for a stand, but all 6 of my stands are set up already. There is some thick brush next to the creek bank that should hide my blind fairly well. I left the creekbottom at that point so I would'nt spook more deer and headed out into the cow pasture. I found a well used cow trail and followed it back to where I parked. Hopefully he will come to bed there again next sat. I will have to hike over a mile, cross two fences, and cross the pasture in the dark with all my gear. Hoping for a dark moon and some moisture to help me get there undetected! Here's a video of this buck that was coming to this seep back in July. Anyone else have a similar plan for opening day?
Looks like you've got a couple of good bucks Tyler. Good luck! I sat in the rain this morning for a couple of hours. I'm not going out this afternoon. Family dinner planned. Tomorrow we should get a short break in the weather and the wind will be right for my "best" stand. I'm getting old, I guess. Maybe if was in the rut, I might sit all day. It's a long season, there'll be plenty of good days to hunt.
Hey guys here are a few pictures of the 2 biggest deer i am hunting in PA. I have about 4 other decent sized 8 pointers but these are my 2 biggest deer i am chasing this fall. . The Bigger one is named goliath and the one buck that is in 2 pictures is named sticker
Well saw a doe out of range and several turkeys and got soakin wet. But ill definately be back out saturday mornin if not before.
I've been out three times this week/last weekend. I've only seen 4 small doe, about 100 turkeys and 5 coyotes...I'm thinking it might be time to bring the rifle with to take care of those coyotes. Definitely why I'm seeing less deer than usual.
I talked to my one of my dads friends at our club yesterday and he told me about a hole he has and told me to go hunt it one day. He killed 2 8 points in a week there last year
This is my first year in the contest. Every since my son inlaw told me about it after last season I've looking forward to this season. I've gotten some really nice pics of a few nice bucks in my hunting area. When I checked the cams last week I only had a pic of 1 of the bucks and very few does. Our DNR had a press relaese-- "The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Michigan State University Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health recently confirmed and announced the death of deer in Ionia and Branch counties was due to epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD). Today the two organizations have confirmed EHD in six additional counties: Barry, Calhoun, Cass, Clinton, Eaton and Montcalm. There has been a nationwide increase of EHD outbreaks due to the extended hot and dry conditions. The often-fatal viral disease, found in wild ruminants, causes extensive internal bleeding within deer and is transmitted by a midge, or type of biting fly. A constant characteristic of the disease is its sudden onset. Deer lose their appetite and fear of humans, grow progressively weaker, salivate excessively and finally become unconscious. Due to a high fever, infected deer often are found sick or dead along or in bodies of water. There is no evidence that humans can contract the EHD virus. But now I'm concerned that recently. In just Kent and Ionia countys they have found almost 4,000 dead deer in the last month! We hunt Ionia county. So I'm not sure what to expect to see this season. Hope thats not why I didnt get many pics last time. Good luck to all my team mates!
