Think Sunday I'll be heading to the public land I scouted the other day. Acorns looked good so figured I'd get a sit in when they're there. Decided to check a different cam today quick. Got my #2 on there. Glad to see him back, and a cool looking 6. Hopefully they'll be around when I can sit there. Funny how they were around til I kept out of that area, then they kept away too, now I went through a few times in a week and they're back. Guess they're curious when I'm around. Good luck to everyone else too. Looks like good potential out there. Looking forward to getting into seasons for everyone and more stories. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You guys have some good looking bucks. Hopefully you get a chance at them. Havent been on much do to work, just like I wont be hunting KY again this weekend do to working all weekend. Weather here is starting to turn lot cooler. Think the high today has only been 64. We get off these 10 hour days and all the weekend hope to head out soon.
Saw doe and her fawns after sitting this morning. Nothing too exciting besides great getting out. Wedding tonight, then public tomorrow, and back close Monday night. Got a smaller 8 on cam two nights in that spot so I'd sit that tomorrow if I didn't commit already with a friend. Decent chance at sending an arrow next few days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Saw a nice buck this morning with dark red antlers from losing velvet. Too bad I was goose hunting...
Went to the public land today. In one hour had 12 does and a fawn come by me. As close as 7 yards. Only bucks this year so had to just watch. Back home again tomorrow night. Decent chance at one of my 8s anyway Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We went after Trash this afternoon. Britney was set up to get first crack at him. Plan was perfect except the wind died down towards the end and you could hear a pin drop. Trash came into about 20 yards but when Britney clicked her release on to the string... it was loud enough to spook him. He didn't stick around too long but you could tell by his reaction to it, he didn't know what it was and finally went back to where he had come from. Hopefully in a few days he will forget about it and stay on his same pattern. The old buck is going to drive me crazy. Tough enough hunting him from the ground. Really tough trying to get both of us in there on him. Britney is learning a lot though. Just not so sure which old dog is teaching her the most... me or Trash !! Tim
Checked cam. As I expected the 8 came through 729 and 7:34 last two nights. That's 4 in a row within ten min. He's not a beast, I'd guess 90", but I'd be pretty pumped to get him as my first recurve kill. That's my intention for the evening anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I checked one trail camera that was ready to be checked and it was all does and fawns. The bucks have gone pretty nocturnal with the harvest moon. Hopefully by opening day they will be up and moving during daylight.
He was on schedule with a six and spike. They took the pipeline edge 30 yards away instead of the inner trail by me, I believe at least in part due to my damn cat walking the trail and hearing then snort at him and circling around. I saw over the trees them enter the field and spar some. My wife also got to watch all this from our kitchen. Then they went back down the pipeline and bolted when the usual doe and twins spooked behind me. Can't say it wasn't good having some excitement, just the way it played wasn't exactly my favorite. Hopefully I'll try my ground brush blind tomorrow over where I contemplated and woulda been the right choice Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No luck last night. Changed spots and had a spike come out. He almost made it past me then looked over and was too curious. Came to under 5 yards in front of me staring at me. I was steady for quite a while then finally had to blink and he wasn't sure so he circled around and watched me from 10 yards behind me for the next ten min and snorted twice. Think I saw two take off that were coming up then. Think I'm giving that area a break after getting busted twice. Checking two other cams in a bit. Might sit in one of those spots in the next few days. We'll see how things look Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Absolutely Bob. Not seeing and having success with some of my top prospects, but getting out and having some cool experiences are tough to beat. Had a bit of some news that will change things. A neighbor of mine is gonna have a buddy of his hunt his property for the season. I have a feeling it's gonna have a big effect for things to come. He will be basically sitting steady over what is one of the better routes the deer take to my field. Not life threatening or anything, it'll change my strategy and all and will effect movement and the herd a lot. The herd is dramatically down from previous years. When I used to see 15-20 at once, now most I saw was the 3 and possibly 2 more the other night, and that has been an extreme exception now. The potential change on the herd is being Native American and able to harvest 5 (from what neighbor was told from him and I believe I've heard before), and also he will bring his daughter for another potential 5. He's not doing anything wrong, and this isn't a big complaint rant or anything, just something that came up today that won't go without impacting things this season and for years to come. Hoping to hit some state land again and hopefully keep some of the local deer safe, or more likely filling their freezer Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ok sorry guys been a few days since Ive been on here but due to my work schedule been really busy lately. I am doing some training so I have been on day shift since last Monday. Really like that change cause it gives me every night to go cruise the fields and see whats around. Also got in another food plot last Monday right before the rain hit and in a week it is looking good already. May try to hit KY Thursday after work otherwise I wont be out til IN opener next wed.
