I had a good weekend hunting but wasn't able to close the deal. On opening morning I saw 11 deer and 4 bucks showed up in a bachelor group. Two of them were small 6's and one was a basket rack 7 (only one brow tine) and last was a really nice 9 point. They were just out of my shooting range at 48 yards. I practice at 40 all the time but have never shot beyond that very consistantly. I had the biggun broadside for several minutes but he never would come any closer. They eventually wandered off out of sight and then I could hear them sparring around. I tried grunting them back in but they didn't respond to the calls. Went back that evening and saw the 7 again by himself. Then saw 6 all does and yearlings on Sunday morning. All-in-all a pretty good 3 sits.

I had a good opening weekend. I was holding out in hopes of a nice buck to walk by since I am still getting pictures of some nice ones but just saw a lot of does both days. I actually had a doe broadside at 15 yards on 7 different occasions and it was not fun having to pass on any of them (they all looked tasty) but there is a lot of season left to shoot does and getting one later hopefully wont be a problem.

Good luck to everyone and keep hunting hard and have fun out there. Be safe...

Smoked a doe last night. Here are a couple pics. I didn't get video of the kill but I took some for the form points system. I'll post that in a little bit.

The deer just aren't moving till it's too dark in my area. The full moon and warm weather + wind is killing me. I'm hunting beween a huge winter wheat field and as close to the bedding as I can get but they're just coming out 5 minutes too late. I've had deer all around me but not enough shooting light. Oh well, all you can do is keep at it.

I hear ya Headstrong, We've had nothing but south winds and that's not conducive to my stand placement. the hot weather and moon hasn't helped things either.

The good news is I have been getting pictures of my target buck almost every night. Bad news is I won't be able to hunt him this weekend most likely because I'm heading into northern WI to set stands. After this weekend I'm going to have fri-mon to hunt for the next 4 weekends. Let's hope I can rack up some points for Team 25.

Hey team!! I've been super busy and haven't been able to hunt at all since opening weekend when I shot that doe. There has been a few times I had a chance but it has been crazy windy here in MI! I plan on hunting Friday evening through Sunday evening this weekend, the weather looks great! I love this time of season, pre rut should be starting to heat up here. That doe that I passed on with her button buck, my buddy who hunts the same piece of property saw him rolling solo last night. I have Oct 31st - Nov 4th off. I am going to hunt morning and night 18 straight sits if weather permits. I can't wait! I wasn't sure If I should take that week off or Nov 7-11. I have always seen more bucks seeking/ chasing during the first week. What do you guys think? It was a real tough decision to make but I really like how the weather is shaping things up. How has everyones season gone so far
    ?

Well the 8 point I was after got smoked last night. The land owner Tim and I were out last night. I had see this buck 3 times on stand, shot over him once. Kurt had him at 15 and couldn't get a shot off. Ryan had him at 46 and didn't take a shot. Tim had him at 40 with no shot. All since the opening day. Last night Tim was on stand and had him come in twice or should I say one time to many. There are bigger bucks around but this one still would have been nice on my wall. Tim had thanked me last night for missing him :)
