You never know what is going to come around this time of year. I know it's disappointing when the buck you were chasing might've been taken but once an opening in the woods comes available it doesn't take long for another buck to take its place. I never seen my buck on cameras this year nor have my neighbors. Keep hunting!

Thanks man! I agree anything can happen in the rut. I'm just not a fan of the rut. I more of the guy that likes to find a good one and chase him down for the whole season. It's hard for me to rely on the rut. But I have no attachment to the buck, I will find another one before the season is out!

Well the guys gave up looking for it. Couldn't find any more blood. I may give up my hunt tonight and go look for it on my own. I know that woods pretty well and I might be able to find it.

Well after 4 hours I found the buck! He was still alive. I put a stalk on him and was able to sneak a arrow into him! Hit right in the heart! Dropped him in his tracks. He was shot 24 hours ago from that other hunter. He hit low liver and pounch. But he was very much still alive, not now!

Alright guys I got him posted up to score card. Let me know if I forgot anything. He ended up grossing 134 5/8! He is bigger then I though. So I'm done in the contest with points, but I will be around cheering you guys on. I still have 2 buck tags, so I'm not slowing down now! 20181108_173957.jpeg

No he was In thick cover. It was so thick you can't see 10 feet into it. It was old select cut woods, so it had as far as you could see small 1" saplings everywhere. He had bedded on the edge of it looking out into open hardwoods. Classic transition line. I was walking the line when I saw his rack in the thicket. I got 2 big popular trees between me and him and snuck as close as I could.

Good luck this week, it should be a great week to hunt the rut! I always see some of the biggest buck out in the next 2 weeks.

Congrats on the kills guys! Way to go!

I spent the last week hunting public land mule deer in Nebraska pre rifle season. It was tough, we didnt find many mule deer at all, and of the tons of whitetail we saw, the rare bucks were spike or forkies. Except one.

I was still hunting/trying to spot/stalk my way around the hills, stepped up so I could see over a small rise, and saw a nice mature 10 pt laying in his bed at 40 yards. He was looking right at me I thought, and I got flustered, forgot to either aim high or adjust my single pin, and ended up giving him a close shave. Crazy thi g was, he had no idea I was anywhere near! Stood looking for what spooked him for a couple minutes. Eventually gave me an opportunity to knock and draw a second arrow, and I somehow missed again! This time close enough I had hair under a fletching...

Long story short, he ran out to 100, stood stomping and looking for whatever was bothering him for 2 or 3 minutes, then trotted off. In the light snow, I trailed him almost a half mile, into his next bed, and he saw me first... never saw a drop of blood, so he got off with nothing worse than a haircut, I had an awesome experience, but ultimately came home empty handed because I couldn't seal the deal. Still was an awesome hunt though! Now to get back after it around home

Wow! Sounds like a great encounter! Was that a mule deer or whitetail that you shot at?
