Theres nothing at all like helping someone kill their first deer, and getting this young man hunting would be well worth it. Good on you!

Temps are supposed to be in the mid 60s for highs and 40s for lows this weekend. Should be a good weekend for the youth hunting weekend.

Dropping some crazy rain here. Nearly 14" in some areas. Would much rather be hunting but alas, no such luck

That is a bummer. Season is not open here yet but there is a decent cold Front that came through today. Lows in the 40’s and highs in the mid 60’s. Youth weekend starts tomorrow so I will be taking my son out. Should be a good sit

Season starts next Saturday and they’re calling temps in the 50s and 60s so I’m pretty excited

Been slow here in Wisconsin. Feel like the almost full moon put a damper on this weekend

It was a tough trip. Never pulled my bow back. I saw elk every day. Had 4 close encounters in 6 days. Had 1 at 90 yards then called him back a hour later to 150 yards. Had a huge heard bull come in screaming right in my face at about 40 - 50 yards for 5 minutes, but never could get a clear shot. Snuck over a mountain one day for 4 hours to a bull bedded on the back side to only catch up to him right at dark. Then he barked at me twice at about 75 yards. Last day I hiked for 8 hours and final had a bull bugle at 2 pm. Set up with my buddy behind me. Bull came in perfect and stopped broad side at 68 yards. Didn't feel comfortable with the distance. He then walked to my buddy calling to 40 yards right between us. Called him back a few times but never got closer for a shot.

Sounds like an interesting trip. Better not to force a shot if you don’t feel comfortable with it. Good discipline on your part

Yeah my buddy was giving me crap for not taking the shot. I wish I put more time in and it would have happened. I had a mule deer tag also and split my time hunting both. It would have been better if I only had 1 tag and dedicated my time to that. I only did 1 stalk on a muley, perfect 4x4 velvet buck. But he jumped the property line while I was moving in on him. I passed a huge buck on the 2nd day hoping for a bigger one, that was a mistake. There was a 200" one running around, but never layer eyes on him. A couple local elk hunters saw him the week before I got there. Said he was over 35" wide. Saw a couple that were pushing 180" but they were just off the land I was hunting and there was no hunting the land they were on. The whole trip could have been better. There were a few locals hunting the same area and they really blew out the area. Made all the animals very jumpy and on edge.

Just got 15 ford f250. Before that I had 01 f250 with 213 k miles. These have been work trucks for me. I always bought fords, just like them. The dodges have been a good truck, I got a few friends that drive them and like them. I guess the closest thing I have had to a dodge is my jeep, love that thing! The truck is so easy just to throw all your hunting crap in the back. And when you get a deer, it's really nice to put them in the bed.

Yeah I bought a 2010 ram from a local farmer that has 58k miles. Trucks super clean and all he used it for was to haul one of his smaller horse trailers around. Hopefully it doesn’t rot out in a few winters lol damn Ohio with all their salt
