Thanks to all. This was the first deer I have harvested on my property since I bought it two and a half years ago. All the work clearing areas and planting food plots has finally paid off. This is also the first time I have been in a ground blind to shoot one. Had a button buck enter the food plot and knew he was going to walk so decided to take a picture of him. As I was putting the phone down the doe walked in. They fed around for about 15 or twenty minutes before I had the shot I wanted. She dropped in her tracks. Used a rage hypodermic broad head. Shot was from about 12 yards. Cut through two ribs completely and hit a third, no pass through, which surprised me, but it was quick. Sitting down, leaning forward and twisted in the chair for the shot with just enough light to see the pins. Good thing I have done a lot of practice over the past 40 plus years of shooting bows.
Only been out one time since the opener. Had 4 does come in but decided not to shoot one yet. I'll be out this weekend with my son on the youth rifle season here in Oklahoma. Hoping he gets a chance at a good one. Good luck to everyone.
It's been very slow to say the least for me, trail cams are still showing plenty of nighttime activity so hopefully I can catch them on their feet during the rut.
Weekend was a bust for deer sightings. Warm and windy weather except for Saturday evening when we couldn't get out. Hopefully this weather starts to get better soon. It's supposed to hit 90 today with 25-30mph wind.
same here, went out Saturday morning and had two doe work the plot but that was it. Ended up being 65° that day and it has got warmer since, 80° today and 45° by this weekend, should be good weekend hopefully.
Hot morning. 71 degrees at 6 when I got out here with high humidity. Need a break in this weather. Can't complain though. In the woods hunting and not working makes any day a good day. Be light enough to shoot soon. Just got to wait for a deer to come by.
Reseeded the food plot last Friday between rain showers. Already sprouted when I checked it yesterday. If the hogs stay out of it until it gets a good start it should be good to go.
Still on the chase here! Weather has been awful...this weekend is supposed to cool down a bit and hopefully this moon will decide to tuck in behind some clouds!
Went out all day saturday and had very little movement from deer, saw 5 including two 1.5-2.5 year old bucks. Saw about 30 turkey throughout the day but didn't buy my fall license this year Hoping these temps keep dropping for next weekend. When is the latest in season you guys would harvest a doe?
I was out last Saturday morning. I only saw one doe. The big boys are starting to show up, but unfortunately at night so far. Any ideas on score?
