T24, I finally get out this weekend!!! I should be able to hunt Friday eve, Sat morn, Sat eve, Sun morn. Next weekend and I think the weekend after that too. I'm long over due. Take care of your trigger finger Hank. Like the quote too, don't understand it, but like it, HA! IV, nice truck, I'm jealous. Good luck brothers, may your arrows fly straight. i just got back from shooting with a buddy, first few were a bit off ill blame my hand haha but the rest were all dead on out to 50 yds.... i just changed my signature or whatever... its from the legend of josey wales when hes talking to tenbears the comanche chief
See a nice looking little buck lastnight in an little Apple orchard about 300 yds from where my stand is, at about 6:15. Too far away and too dark to see how many points. He's only about a year in a half. Still good to see action at my spot a week before opener. Gonna head out this weekend to put a stand behind that swamp. Hopefully get it up around where I pinpointed stand 3 but we'll see
Rough night last night with the barometer change and no anti-inflammatories in the house. Heading to the pharmacy when it opens to relief. Arthritis sucks.
Sorry to hear that Iowa. I guess that happens with the weather change. My dad deals with it this time of year too. I set all evening yesterday without any deer sightings. It's pretty close up hunting where I'm situated so deer could be around me and I believe they are but unless they travel that one particular trail I won't see them. After returning to my truck and on my way out of my property I had a monster jump across in front of my headlights. I got to see him for a second and he's a dandy. He was right dead center in the middle of my property in a open brushy field area. I assume he was bedded close to there and had just gotten up. Anyway, it was good to see.
Well i'm done for the week, not going out for the afternoon today, gonna stay in and get rested up for work. Work the next 4 days then off wed, thur of next week. Got rained on a little this morning, and the temps dropped last night. I know how you feel Mark, i'm only 27, 11 days from 28. but I have worked a job that is rough on the body for 10 years, weather changes like this mess with my hands and knees badly. My knuckles in my hands are so sore from carrying my bow in and out today. But on another note, my hunter ethics were tested today and I passed. Had a good wind and with the rain its easy to walk and not make noise, so I took the long back way back out to the truck today. Was hoping maybe to find a bedding area or bump a few deer, which I did, only I was right on the property line, bumped 2 nice size does, 1 stopped 15 yds on the wrong side of the fence and stared at me broadside for about 30 seconds. I wont lie and say I didnt think about drawing back, but the better side of me kicked in and said no, it's a long season, plenty of time to smack one. To any of y'all going out this weekend, good luck and be safe. whack em and stack em boys.
I commend your judgement Wes. It's hard to do, but the right things usually are. You'll get your chance sooner or later. Good luck to the rest of you this weekend. I'll be in the stand in the morning just 100 yards or so from where I saw that biggun last night. Who knows, maybe he'll pay me a visit. I'll be checkin in from my droid.
I'm going out in the morning but my mind will be on an auction that has a double barrel 12 GA from the 1880's. I want that flippin' thing so bad I can taste it, but I can't do both so I'm going to hunt.
Well, another day down. I won't bore you with details on here. Here's the link to the whole story for the season so far: http://forums.bowhunting.com/showthread.php?39462-My-Season-So-Far
Gotta run out and grab my stand in the morning so I may as well squeeze in a hunt. Gonna try a new property on Monday. Was not gonna hunt again until Wednesday but a buddy called and wanted to do some filming on the new property so ill go out for a few hours in the morning, then have to go to work in the afternoon. Gonna be a little tiring but oh well, I can sleep when I'm dead right. To everyone else going out, good luck, be safe, whack and stack.
Took ny climber in tonight to a spot I haven't hunted in years. Saw 8 doe cross behind me. Nice evening out. I'm planning to be more mobile here over the next two weeks trying to find any areas that might border neighboring property to catch bucks crossing over. Our property just does not hold bucks except during the rut, and late season due to our food sources.
Good luck all. Had to take this morning off and finish getting the house ready to show here in 18 minutes. Would have been perfect - no wind at all and a nice heavy frost. Might walk up to the oak grove and pull cards this afternoon before hunting.
Well didn't make it out as planned. My dad called me while I was on my way out. He needed help winterizing his boat and camper, so me being the good son that I am, I called off my morning hunt and went to help him instead. Guess my hunt for tomorrow has been cancelled to, my buddy blew a brake line on his truck and has to go get it fixed tomorrow. So it looks like public ground wed and thur this week. Then we will hit the private ground next Tuesday on the 16th. It's my birthday that day so hopefully I'll get a nice present on the shape of a big rack.
Tomorrow the winds are supposed to be real high anyway. Looks like today might be the last chance for a few days.
I'm back, saw nothing except for a lot of tree rats. If this were a squirrel hunting contest, I'd be golden.
I was just heading out and the realtor called. Has someone else who wants to see the place today. Told her she could be here with 30 minutes or wait until after I was done hunting as she can't make it nor can anyone else from her agency. I need to sell, but I need to be in a stand today more than that. Crap! This was my 3000th post on here and I wanted to save that for something special! Dangit!
Sitting in the blind right now with my wife. This is her first official deer hunt, she had set with me a few times in the years past but bought her a crossbow this year in hopes of getting her more interested. Sitting right between two corn fields that were just cut Friday, hopefully we can catch a deer coming out this evening. Good luck to everyone else in the woods tonight.
Bumped a basket 6 on my way to the stand and after that saw 2 squirrels and one raccoon within 30 minutes of sunset. Bummer.
