Moved some stands around and hopefully going to be back in the woods this week a little bit going for my doe and another 50pts for us. Hopefully everyone has a few shooters scouted out and ready for opening day. Since I already used my buck tag for KY, we are looking to head up to Ohio and try and fill another tag. Anyone ever hunted in Ohio and can give some pointers on public land? Looking at finding a mngt area or state park.
Had a productive day, went out with a buddy that wants me to help do some filming this year and got permission on 360 acres, timber, beans, corn, wheat fields and a pretty big creek. May hit it a couple times early October, but mostly gonna wait till rut kicks I'm and then hit it harder.
34 days .....been hittingthe woods, some great buck sign, monster tracks, seen a doe the size of a cow...thought it was a buck not sporting any head gear at first. It is opening day of gray squirrel though, got one in the freezer already haha. Great practice, and it eases some pain of the season being so far away.
Yeah I've read that they def prefer the white oaks. Red and black are supposed to be more bitter and not hit much until the white are cleaned up. Most in this stand are white so who knows. Went out for a few hrs before work today and ended up seeing nine doe and two fawns but nothing with head gear. Not sure if ill get out again this wk but ill keep you guys posted. Good luck to everyone heading out.
Drove around the block and this is all I saw that was photo worthy: I did have two does feeding on acorns by the pond this afternoon and they may very well all be hanging out in the oak groves.
Nice pic, Iowa. No new news for me (other than some new trailcam photos you can find on the main forum). Just shooting some, getting gear around, and waiting for Sept. 29 :D ).
Went out yesterday at 9:00 AM to check property lines and ended up bumping 21 deer on the place. These weren't in the normal bedding areas but along eastern and southern fencelines. Going to be a good year.
The big ones here are very elusive until the pre-rut. That's when they start thinking with something other than their brain.
My pack is all ready to go, camo is in sealed bags, I'm itching so bad I brought my block upstairs...its 16 yards from my bed to the kitchen wall haha...went so far as the trace out a buck on cardboard to put over it. Oct. 15th is way to far away
showtime is finally here....heading out to deer camp in a few hours for WI OPENER tomorrow...will be out and about till Tues/Wed.....let's gather some luck now! :D
Not going to be able to hunt this weekend, but I did manage to go check my camera and freshen up a couple of scrapes today. Had nothing to brag about, a few doe and a few fawn on the card. Good luck dj and brown down!
