NE was a bust. Saw one buck first thing and then nothing. Which was really odd for that spot as I have seen at least 5 deer every sit... Got out of my stand about 10:30 and walked over to a deer gut pile some 20 yards from my stand. :( Repositioning this afternoon for a evening sit.

Friend saw 5 bucks this morning. 1 giant and another 4.5 year old. No shots. Good luck this afternoon in new spot.

I've looked at the public land map for Nebraska before. There is barely anything!

I've always had good luck hunting over a gut pile, deer are curious critters.

I would have thought you would have bagged a coyote with gut pile. Would guess deer wouldn't come around, but who knows.

My dad shot a deer a couple of years ago. I made him wait to go look for it which is like telling a kid that they can't get their Christmas presents until Dec 26. I rattled in a buck while we were waiting. As soon as he got downwind of where that deer was shot he bolted. Hard to tell what deer will do. They will surprise you though.

    Hope your feeling better Art.

Well I just walked in the door. Been at it since 3:30 this morning. Humped quite a few miles today with a full load out. I am sore but I feel really light right now! Almost feel like super man!

Evening sit was ok. Had 2 does antagonize me for almost two full hour just out of bow range. That and they had lots of friends with them. A whole load of turkeys and squirrels.... I couldn't move a muscle.... Almost seemed like some kind of Disney movie.

I am afraid this is it for me until the weekend. Wife is headed to Phoenix for work in the morning. Mr. Mom the rest of the week. :)

If I don't cough too much when I get up in the morning I'll be headed out. I feel like a million dollars compared to the weekend.

I was up all night hacking so I'll wait one more day. Calling for rain tomorrow so probably not a good idea going out in the rain sick. I had all day sits 8 out of 9 days, I think I wore myself down causing me to get sick.

We are back in the top 10 with the buck scarps posted. We would be in 9th and hot on the heals of 8th place if we could get that other buck on the scoreboard!

Good to hear your doing better art

Well today I turned off my alarm and got some much needed sleep. Kinda kicking my self for not going out but all well. Went out this evening seen 2 really small bucks, 1 doe, and one I could never tell. Since things shut down around December at my farm I am really thinking of a out of state trip. My buddy has a Missouri tag and I'm gonna see if I can get one tomorrow for late bow season. Just wondering if any of you guys have hunted there and have any leads for that state.

Thanks ! Rifle season is on here, so we'll see how that goes . I shot at a slammer bear Monday afternoon but didn't hit him, the brush he was in was thicker than I thought.

    Got lucky last night.

Shot at a doe that was around 30-35. Perfect broadside shot and she was feeding. Drew back and had plenty of time. I made a mistake and used 20 yard pin. Luckily I was aiming low on her already. Just got a little hair and no blood. First time I've missed a deer and luckily it wasn't wounded. Only been bowhunting three years. Before this I was 7 for 7 on shots. All recovered. I'm glad this has happened as I knew it would at some point. Just very glad I didn't have a bad hit and no recovery.

I wasn't rushed at all, but just forgot to think about the distance. I aimed low thinking she was up the hill from me so I would get a better blood trail. That is how much time I had to think through things. Usually I aim for middle of deer instead of low. Thinking if I hit low or high it will still work. Over thought things a little. If I would have aimed where I normally do I would have still got her with the 20 yard pin.

On another note....I just ordered 50 pounds of pork for this weekend to make venison into summer sausage, amish sausage, bacon, hot italian sausage, and sticks. Grinder and stuffer will be busy.
