Looks like its finally time for me to get back in the stand this afternoon! I`ve been out of town working, just got back last night. The temps have gotten much better so I should have some action the next few days. I`m going to hunt today through the weekend, the most time I`ve had all season. Then its back to work for 4 days and off to OH on the 1st!

Hey guys...just checking in. I have been hunting quite a few evenings but nothing to show for it yet. We don't have a lot of bowhunters in our area so I still waiting on a mature buck, even early season while they are not heavily pressured.

But all that changes on Nov 2nd when gun season opens up. But we are fortunate in that we can continue to bowhunt all the way through December. Our rut is not until last half of November, so I will probably go ahead and put a doe down sometime over the weekend if I dont have a mature buck by then.

    Good luck to everyone.

Figured out the snipping tool. Here are the areas I'm hunting. Big timber below the home farm stands. Ladder stand won't be hunted until Halloween. That is where I shot buck last year. First sit in it. I really haven't hunted the other farm much.

15 years ago or so a bunch of walnuts were planted on farm where I have the ground blind. It has gotten better. Crick runs through. Hillside above the crick to the south. Turnips are coming up in the bottom from a few years ago getting planted. Our renter didn't get any crops in and the turnips are huge. Also, by the buildings nearest my stand the owner planted some rye grass that the deer are coming in to feed on by the barn. The corn and beans are out at this farm. Across the road to the north they had been traveling to feed in both corn and beans. I grew up in the buildings nearest blind. Since has been sold. The guy that bought house and barn shot a nice buck his first year on my dads land below by the crick. I believe 170ish plus or minus.

Those properties look like a deer haven! Wish I had properties like that to hunt here in KS. Where are the boundaries of those two properties? Does the first property butt up to the road (C1X) to the north?

Property line on first photo is basically a straight line between the stands. Our farm is from that property line to the west. We can't hunt to the east of those stands, or North or South for bow.

The huge timber to the east doesn't get hit that hard. 1st season shotgun and maybe a little bit of bowhunting. I believe they don't hunt too much for antlers. To the North east only 1 guy hunts that property and tries to get nice bucks.

Our shotgun group during second season is probably the worst for shooting small bucks. Trying to change that mindset this year a little bit at a time.

Going out tonight with my dad. I'm trying to talk him into not taking any shots unless it is a nice buck. He said he would shoot another doe if given a good shot. His land, so I can't argue too much. Just slowly influence him. He realizes it can screw up the area for hunting, but believes if he gets a good shot he should take it for the meat. He doesn't get out as much as I do so I can't say his mindset is wrong.

His mindset on little bucks has gotten much better than in the past. He is also crazy about scent control like myself. He has a box blind to hunt out of pretty close to my hang on stand. We have a 2 acre food plot in the back corner by the hang on. Clover, chicory....planted 3 years ago. The foxtail has gotten really bad, but the clover is still there. Last winter they destroyed the food plot. It came back well. Might try to replant the food plot next year.

2nd property line is at the beginning of the timber. Stops before the buildings to the east. Road on the west. We have property across the road to the north, but not much for trees. It is pretty thick on the hillside to the south of the crick. Hard to set up in anywhere without being real loud.

Ok, so a little update of what I have going on for the next few weeks.

I am a single parent this week so I won't be doing much hunting. I am going to try to get out Friday night. I need to check a TC and retrieve some climbing sticks for a friend to borrow. I figured I would hunt that stand while I am in there. :)

This weekend is my first trip to Nebraska this year. Going to try to scout as much as my hunting partner will let me while we are up there. He always just wants to hunt. We need to put some ground work in to prepare for the following weeks. Week after we will be camping up there for four days! Weather and Moon chart looks perfect if you believe in that stuff. If we don't get it done during that trip I will probably be going solo from that point forward. :dan:

26 days left...!!!:woot: This is the day my buck will be official scored. My taxidermist has my form in and the hide tanned. He is just waiting on the antlers! I should have him at home well before Thanksgiving. This means he will be on display for all my guests at turkey dinner! :tu:

Family first. No kids now so I'm pretty flexible until that day comes. Good luck in Nebraska.

Here is a pic of the dried venison I got sliced and vacuum sealed.

Saw one hen turkey early that came by my stand. Late an 8 pointer came out. Walked right in front of my stand left to right. Stopped directly in front of me broadside. 15 yards. He was downwind. Never smelled me or got spooked. I never grabbed my bow since he wasn't that big.

My dad said later that buck walked by the right person. He said he would have shot him, but is glad he didn't get a chance to after looking at him more. I'm guessing 120ish. Might have been same buck I saw first day I sat.

I heard him coming through woods before I saw him. Got me pretty jacked up when I saw antlers. Then he walked out in full view and I knew he wasnt what I was looking for. I kept saying.....come towards me. Don't go away from me or your going to die. Ha

Neighbor by the ground blind had his 3D deer attacked last night. Good signs.

I'm closing in on the weekend. It has been a stressful school week, sorry I haven't checked in much.

Went out yesterday morning and only saw a couple does. It feels like the season is flying by me. The rut is about to kick in and it still feels like the beginning of the season to me.

Things have been pretty slow for me. Yesterday, I no more than climbed into the stand and got settled in when a shooter ran by at 40, and stopped at 60 looking behind him. Not sure what spooked him, but regardless I didn't get a shot. I sat the rest of the afternoon without seeing another deer. The temps are colder and overcast today, so I`m hoping this afternoons hunt sees more action.

Things are starting to pick up around here. Talked to a couple buddies last night, one seen 4 shooters chasing a few does around and ended up missing a 130 class 8 point. Another buddy seen 8 bucks chasing does and was able to call one into range while his mom took a 140 class 11 point. Cant wait to get back in the woods this weekend, hoping the farmer started on some corn since we havent had any rain all week.

I'm liking these last few posts. Talked to a guy today that saw a couple good bucks this morning while driving around. The time can't pass fast enough at work these days. Tick. Tick. Tick.

Combining near my clover plot and there was 5 deer in it. Couldn't tell If there were any bucks but they're moving early. This was 330-4.
