One small doe came in late. That is all I saw. Still great to get out after a weekend in city.

Good story on the doe this morning.

Well last night was a bust. Not to sure why its been so slow this year. last year I maybe went 4-5 sits all season without seeing any deer. Still have a bunch of corn up around the farm so that might be a big cause of it, hoping they get to cutting this week. Heard some good news last night on one of my other properties. The guy who lives there was walking down the driveway last night and noticed a real good buck in the field and said that he was grunting on pretty much every step he took. Probably head over there tomorrow and see if I cant lay my eyes on him.

I feel you Nick. The corn is still in around here too! Right now their travel routes are pretty limitless. I bet we see a bunch if / when the corn ever gets cut. Really unusual for it to still be standing this late! Heck there are tons of fields with beans still standing!

Yeah I dont think the full moon this weekend helped things either. The corn around are farm is coming down slowly but at least its coming off. Talked with the farmer this weekend and he is trying to hold out in hopes that we will have some dry weather so he doesnt have to pay to have it dried out after cutting. He said something along the lines that it cost .34 cents a bushel, adds up to $34 something a acre. When you count in all the acres it adds up. So hes hoping he can avoid that for more money in his pocket which I understand but dangit would I love it for that corn to be gone

I guess I should clerfy with the tree. All I did was cut down a tree, take fence post hole digger and dig a hole then put the tree in the ground. Didint actually plant the tree:o but it was a oak tree

I've been wondering if that works. I wanted to try that in my plot. Seem to be doing alright?

I didnt get it in until i think 3 weeks before season, would of liked to get it in earlier. But so far yeah it seems to be doing good. At first the deer would come up to it and just stick there heads out and smell it since it was something new in there area but they have seemed to adapt to it now. I havent seen them actually scape the ground they but the bucks have been hitting the licking branches on it. In the pictures I posted the other day with him hitting the mock scrape that it just a branch screwed to a tree and as of now there are 2 small 8pt and him hitting it.

Did you cut it off at ground level or dig out some to get a few roots?

I just cut it off by the ground then trimmed the lower branches off. Its just a temporary thing that I can take out whenever. Its part of the field that the farmer uses for crops but this year it was winter wheat so that allowed us to go in and plant a fall plot after the wheat was harvested. Next year im going to talk to him and see if I can give him some extra money to keep that spot a food plot but im not a 100% sure if thats gonna happen or not.

I might have to do that next year. My main plot is in trees but no good low hanging branches anywhere on the border to do a mock scrape/licking branch. Either "transplanting" a tree or screwing one onto another tree may have to be an option I look into.

Exactly why i did it because there was no low hanging branches. When I put the tree in the plot it took them a little bit to get use to, But when I screwed the branch to a tree they started using that one a week or two later.

Some pretty good news. Neighbors are combining next door from where we're combining which should force the deer to use the draw I'm usually hunting. Perfect timing for the rut.

There's a guy on Chasingame.com that does this with tremendous results. I was planning on doing it in late August but the ground was too hard for the post hole digger.

Here is how I spent my Saturday. No funny business from here on out. It is archery hunting or no hunting until December rolls around.
