Haha yeah it's only does and small bucks though, every couple years a good one will be around. But it's good to fill the freezer with does and not disturb my good hunting areas

Back in the stand this morning, this one is set up about 50-60 yards from the back of my house. Had a doe and a fawn at 20 but decided not to shoot, still plenty of time for that

By my totals the doe Nick shot puts us in a tie for second place! It would be great if everyone that can harvest more then one deer had a doe on the scoreboard by Nov. 1. This gives most of us that haven't yet harvested a buck to focus on that during peak. I do understand your peak may be different then everyone else's so take that into consideration! At the same time I hope to see some "Halloween" bucks hit the scoreboard!

Just wanted to clarify... By no means am I encouraging you to change the way you choose to hunt just for the sake of the contest! It's for fun. Just trying to make sure it stays that way!

@ Nick -I can't wait to see the vid!
@ Woodsy - Jealous you can hunt your "backyard". Sounds like you have plenty of deer running around the place!

This is going to be a good weekend for me boys.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday I'll be on some public ground in western South Dakota.
Monday I'll be back around my hometown hunting.

It's a three day weekend, but I'll make it a four.

If any of you are interested I have a Google drive with all of my trail camera pictures and hunting journal. Let me know if you would like to see and I can add you to the Drive.

That's great boof! As of right now I am planning a 3 day trip into Nebraska the 3rd or 4th week of October. Going to stay flexible and adjust accordingly. Weather, rut report, etc.....

I can't tell you how import it is to record your adventures! The harvest of a animal is secondary to me. Like my last outing I didn't harvest anything or see much for that matter but I wrote a page in my journal. Mostly about how I was stuck in the creek and couldn't get out (steep sides) or cross it (deep). It took me 2 1/2 hours to walk a 1/4 mile and set my stand before I was ready. It wasn't funning at the time but I am sure when I read it a few years from now I will fall out of my chair laughing.

Speaking of which. My idea is to run a rope from bank to bank. This will help me climb up and down and get myself across the creek if I can find something that will float.

Need something durable, will float with 300 LBs in it, and is cheap. My plan is to leave it there all season. Any ideas?

Heckler, it is nice to have a stand so close and easy to get to,thats for sure! I haven't had much for bucks coming through yet, but I saw a decent buck the other night on the way home about 200 yards down the road. If presented with an opportunity with a doe this evening ,I`m gonna shoot I think. Me and a couple buddies got reservations for a hotel in ohio, gonna be out there nov 1st. I`ve got high hopes for that

No, I don't have one that's why I wanted to know before I buy it. Was looking at a sled that was 74"L x 38"W x 17"H. I looked at the reviews and this is the feedback from one purchaser....

"I've had it in the water loaded with a 4000watt generator 9 gal gas,5 gal butane, guns gear and a 4pt buck still could have put more in it." That brand and size of sled is 339.99. Ouch. The same company makes a smaller sled (55"L x 24"W x 10"H) for $80. The creek is like 20ft wide max and like 4ft deep where I want to cross. I could deer hunt in my waders I suppose when it gets colder. Just really didn't want to!!! I guess I need to take a crash course in determining buoyancy. Time to google and see if I can figure it out!

    I think I got it.

    Buoyancy Calc

    1. Volume of object in cubic feet. height x length x width.
    2. Amount of boat sides out of the water. 50% x volume.
    3. 62.4 (weight of 1 cubic foot of water) x number 2 total.

Total is the number of pounds of buoyant force keeping half of your boat out of the water.

So convert object dimensions from inches to feet.

    55"L x 24"W x 10"H = 4.6 x 2 x 0.8 = 7.36

    7.36 x .5 x 62.4 = 229.63 lbs

So the water line would be 5 inches from the top with 229.63 lbs in the object including its own weight I believe.

Water line would be 3 inches from the top with 321.48 lbs in it.

    Might just be enough!

Had about a half hour between loads of beans to get a little shooting in to make sure I'm dialed in and my bow is broadhead tuned.

Unfortunately I screwed up one of my arrows but I have plenty so no big deal. Safe to say it's tuned correctly!

You know it! The backside of this public landed is border by a small amount of private land. No one would make the effort to contact the landowner to get permission to walk in from that side or make the effort to get across the creek. I obtained permission a couple weeks ago. First time I crossed the creek I was soaked and my boots were completely full of water. The only other way in is a 2 mile walk. One of the bucks I have on camera is big enough that I doubt I will share trail camera pics with anyone unless I harvest him! He has the potential to be a top 10 KS buck! Hope he lives another year. Like to see him put on another 20 inches.

Your killing me with all these public land monsters. You really have me considering making a trip to KS for a DUI public land. Going somewhere next year for sure Nebraska was another thought
