Got into my calling spot by 12:30 and started my sequence of grunts for Moose. Nothing was moving. Called till 4:30 for my buddy and that was it for him. I walked him out and let him off the property and I went back to the truck for an hour nap till 5:30.Got into my tree stand by 6pm on the dot and was ready to sling an arrow @ anything that moving,I no sooner sat down and I saw a patch of black hair moving with the wind @ 40 yards. Sure enough it was a bull and he ws coming towards me. I stood and grabbed my bow and watched as he stopped to smell the air which was bad because my scent was blowing right to him. Sure enough he choose to keep going the other direction and I tried franticly to call him back but to no avail. That was it to another day in the woods, Saw 2 does as I walked out and almost hit one on my drive home. Total of 1 Owl 1 hawk and a buch of nothing . Seems like my start to hunting here every year, man it's slow but it get's better with time!

Hunted last night and this morning. Saw three bucks together last night. That is two more than I saw all of last year on this land. The big one was a 4x4 that would probably go 125. I would definitely arrow him if given the chance. They came to about 60 yards and scooted just out of bow range. It was incredibly exciting to see deer out of this stand. This is the same area that got nailed with EHD last year.

Not sure what this week will bring. I should have a fairly light load at school, so I think I'll get out a couple times.

Next Saturday morning I should be sitting comfy in a stand. Temps are suppose to be around 45, got a nice cold front coming in Friday night. Recipe for success. Good luck to the rest of you!

Never saw a thing all weekend and with my boss having a heart attack I can't hunt Sunday evenings anymore and risk missing work on Monday for recovery. :(

I think we have hit the October low here a little early. It also looks like its really going to start cooling off the first/second week in Oct. I am going to move around a bit and see if I can't find some more spots for late October. I did buy my tag for NE. I found a Kansas farmer through a friend of a friend of a friend..... He has ground just on the other side of the border in NE. I am going to hit him up and see if I can get on his land. Regardless what happens I do have a nice bit of ground (500 or so acres) to hunt in NE. Best part is all the ground is in Richardson county which from what I have read is one of the best counties that produces big bucks.

Sounds like you are pretty flexible! No pressure now that you already have a big one down.

If you ever look at getting a tag for South Dakota, let me know. I think non-res tags are $286 and are good for the whole state.

No, my taxidermist wanted to wait until he had the head skinned out. He told me he would get it done this week. If I don't have a score "Official" green score by Friday I might wig out.

Boof, I will certainly let you know! If I tag out in NE, SD may be next on the list. I have clients (customers) in:

    Mitchell
    Lemmon
    Burke
    Yankton
    Rapid City
    Sioux Falls
    Belle Fourche

Of those locations which do you think would be best for population and quality of deer?

Well boys, I got three sits in over the weekend but nothing to score yet. Saw a good many doe, a couple of young bucks and 1 almost shooter buck...a 3 1/2 8 pter that would probably score high 20's. I had him broadside looking away at about 27 yards but I have 4 different properties with several good 130-140 prospects on three of the four parcels....just have to be patient.

Sounds good jackflap! Might be a good property to put down a doe or 2,3,4....

Well boys tomorrow is the big day finallly, lucky I haves tuesdays off from work :tu:
Went out to the lease yesterday to hang one last stand on a creek through the fields and since it was raining we figured it would be a good chance to check the other cameras. I was starting to get a little scared since we havent got any pics of turkey foot in a few weeks but he decided to pass by the camera just to let me know he is still around. Such a relif to get hard horn pic's of him, are 9pt slick did the same thing to.

My guess is we wont catch him on the hoof until the rut, but kinda gonna poke around with a couple stands the first week or two then back out of this property until the end of Oct.

Hate to be that guy but me and my filming partner are going back and forth with turkey foot on his age and score (not that it matters becuase he wont get a free pass). Im guessing 3 1/2 around 150-155 range and hes saying 4 1/2 160's
