I picked up my bow last night after having the limbs swapped out, I am gonna check my sighting tonight after work, and should be back in a tree tomorrow afternoon.
I was able to drop a button buck this morning. I already posted it to the scorecard thread. I made a bad initial shot but got lucky and spined it so after the quick much better placed follow up shot, he was mine. I was sitting in the same exact location I was 2 weeks ago when I shot my turkey. The deer came from my left and didn’t know I was there. I was on the ground with full face net, gloves, and 3D leafy suit. I had the wind and he couldn’t get downwind without going out into the pasture. As he got closer, I drew as he went behind a tree. He came out at 21 yards and stopped. I settled the pin behind the front shoulder and squeezed the trigger on my release. Just as I touched off the shot, he took another step forward and then started to drop to run away. The arrow hit him in the spine pretty far back. He dropped, and I quickly got another arrow in him through the chest. I thought it was a doe when I shot but it turned out to be a button buck. I am glad it turned out like it did because as soon as the arrow hit him I thought I was in for a long day of waiting and then tracking.
Even though it doesn't count for the contest... This is a beautiful sight to see Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wife bought me a crossbow yesterday. They are pretty sweet. After I get a buck down with my bow I think ill try and use it to fill my other doe tags.
Good job guys!!! U guys are on fire!! My season has been pretty rough so far cant get nothing in range..but I know my luck will change sooner or later!
Great Job Everyone! We are off to e great start. I'm hoping a few more bucks fall for us during the rut! Keep up the great work guys! Be safe!
Yep, looks like the team is doing great! I'll be leaving work at noon tomorrow and heading to Kentucky. I have two great spots set up on different properties. My brother called me after he got down yesterday evening to tell me that he had just watched what he called a "huge shooter buck" chase a doe across a bean field and also saw two good 8 points having an all-out fight over a doe that was just standing there watching. With that kind of observed activity, the coldest temps of the year being forecast and a new moon on Thursday, it's shaping up to be a great time to be in the woods.
I live and hunt here in ky, while I havent seen that kind of rutting behavior I have noticed an increase in day time bucks here. Still waiting on a shooter.
I had one of my target bucks feeding in a plot from 45 to 50 yards from me for over an hour last night. As soon as legal time was over, he moved and started feeding at 8 yards! lol. I was pinned in the stand until nearly 8pm. He is not a huge scoring deer, maybe 160's. But, he is 7 or 8 years old and has been around for ever. I decided it was time to get him out of there because I know he is a bully and I would like to see what might move in with him gone. I hope to get that chance.
