Me just checking in, been awhile! still waiting on October. my first hunt will be Oct 2nd as im off that day! Seems every time Deer season gets near we go into an outage here at work. Im working 10 hr days 6 days a week but have three weeks off in November !
Started planning my first Ohio whitetail public land hunt for October. Got a buddy who lives out near a big state forest that apparently doesn't get much early season bow pressure. Has a camp ground right next to it so that's where I plan to be Oct 12-14. I'll definitely be in the woods before then but man am I pumped to go out and camp for a few days and try to get onto some deer. I went elk hunting in Colorado last year in public ground. I can't afford to do that every year so this is helping to scratch that itch. It's also keeping me out of my primary hunting spots until the rut! Bring on October! Well opening day is finally here for me...unfortunately the wind isn't good for any of my morning spots so I have to wait until the afternoon now, but at least I'll be able to get in the woods today! I'll be checking cameras later this morning and will hopefully see my #1 buck moving on a slightly more consistent basis. If he is I'll be going after him, if not I'll be hitting up some great public land I found going after a doe tonight.
Enjoy it guys! Still got two weeks here in Ohio. Hunt safe and hunt smart. And if any of you want an education I'd recommend listening to the Wired To Hunt Podcast episode 63 with Mark Drury. Just listened to that and learned a ton! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
82 degrees and sitting in my blind this afternoon. It's hot. Used a whole bottle of Scentaway spray sitting in here in shorts and a t-shirt.
Good luck to those of you who are out there already! 2 more weeks until it starts here in PA. I'm basically ready...although I do want to shoot a few shots with my broadheads on just to make sure everything is good.
Came close this weekend, right before closing last night I heard a couple different deer moving near me, but they never showed themselves. Felt great to be back out in the woods that's for sure!
B Hicks ....I was just looking at the scorecard for the contest, and it says that your "time of kill" needs to be provided before your buck can be officially entered. Pretty awesome deer!
Sorry guys I've been busy an had my seen any of my notifications go off kinda weird. Man I sure am jealous of every one getting out an in the stand. Next Saturday i plan to if nothing else happens lol Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

October 1st can't come soon enough... Still doing some stand work - we never really stop with that even once the season starts. Always open to moving or adjusting stands based on movement. My 80 acre lease has 6/7 stands on it. I'd say of those 3 or 4 have the potential to be really good the other 2 or 3 are marginal stands based on local, wind, entry/exit etc. I also am in the process of acquiring another 120 acres - late in the game but same owner as my 80 acre lease just another 10 minutes down the road. It has the potential to be a really nice piece of property. Based on location and how poorly that property has been protected probably will have to do some damage control with truspassing. If we can get that under control it's another very dynamic property. Really just down to figuring out $$ & who we include on the lease agreement. Last year we acquired that 80 acre piece of land at about this time and were able to harvest one buck on it and I shot a buck that we were not able to find after a pretty dramatic and lengthy track job. Good luck to the rest of you as you get started with your seasons. Stay safe - enjoy the whitetail woods, they sure are beautiful!
Went an got all my stuff ready at the lease yesterday. I may just get one afternoon all weekend next week but man I'm stoked. Sent from my SM-G955U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Went out on Saturday and only ended up seeing a small 4 pointer right at first light. I think it was just too hot for them to be moving during the day since it got up to 91! I'm busy the next two weekends so I'll have to hunt through you guys, so good luck.
Well ours comes in this week end but its my week end to work. I work every sixth one. Im off the following Monday but have two appointments! prob the weekend after before I get out
Sorry I haven't been participating much lately. This heat wave in Wi just kept me down when it comes to hunting. It is about to break in a couple hours and that will help light a fire under my ass. I have some cameras out now and mostly getting some does. I do have 1 cam out in western part of Wisconsin since early August at my parents place. I can not wait to check that one out in October. Anyways stay at it and good luck.
