USAF that’s a pretty decent sit for your first one. You have a great spot there.

Hunting a regional park this morning. Had one walk behind in the dark and saw another white tail heading away from me.

Stand is on the edge of some thick cover with a pond to my back. Wood ducks have been coming in like crazy this morning!

Yes JGD. I agree. I am really happy about my spot this year on base. I had a different spot on this base last year and apparently it was terrible. Lol. I had about 6 sits and only saw a button buck. Much better this year!

Had a really eventful morning and back in the tree for the evening. Saw 12 total, 11 doe/fawn and one buck that didn’t present a shot.

I've had a camera set up on public land all summer over a mineral site. I was pretty excited to check it today and after making the 3 mile round trip to pull the camera I looked at the card on my phone. I was surprised to see the card was "full" as the mineral site wasn't disturbed all that much. The last picture taken was on 4/14/18 and there were a few literally hundreds of pics of a doe and last year's fawn "living" on that mineral site! The card was full before any velvet horns showed up so basically I got noth'n. :) Had I not been fishing so much I could have gone in and checked the card...but who knew a doe and yearling would be such posers? The "selfie" thing has gotten to the wildlife I guess. :)

On a better note, I did see a couple deer on the way out and one was a decent buck from what I could tell. I then moved over to the new lease and literally one minute after getting on the property, a 150-160" buck came running out of the woods, stopped and looked around as if he had just been woke up from a nap and then went back in where he came from. Very weird but I got to look at him with the binos for a full two minutes. Guess who is now on my hit list? In fact, he IS my hit list since he was the only deer I've seen so far on the lease. Get'em boys!

nice sounding buck J! Lay that fella down! One of the small farms I've hunted the last three years has a doe on it, easily identifiable, that drainssss the batteries on my camera she is so visible. So I know that feeling Hah. And where I hunt you can't even put out feeds or attractants for consumption. She's popped out a few buck fawns in the years why she will always get the pass from me.
Also, my target buck is now hard horn! He's purely nocturnal the month of September but I'm catching him between two cameras not too far apart, but it's taking him hours to reach it so believe he's headed to the top of the mountain to feed before headed back by to his bed for the day. Need to catch him slipping back in late to his bedding so I can get a chance in daylight! Three seperate mornings I have him at 4:17am, 4:22am, and 4:23am headed back deeper into the property. Got to love my mountain bucks. As J said, Get em boys! T - 7 days.

Day 2 in the park. Lot less activity, even from birds and squirrels. Learned yesterday that my stand is pitching down about 5 degrees. Slight lean in the tree that was inperceivable when I hung. Yesterday wasn’t bad but boy is today uncomfortable. Hopefully it’ll be fixed at mid day.

JGD, Brad is asking for a date and time on the doe you killed in the scorecard thread.
    Congrats on getting us going!

Been a long day in stand but man it's always great to be in tree! Skunked this AM at our first set up and hung our second set for the afternoon around 130pm - then at 3pm this lone cub came through and milled around a log at 15 yards for 10 minutes before continuing on its way. Either it's an adventurous/wandering little fella and momma didn't come in with it, or it's a loner which isn't a good thing for its small size and the brutal winter coming. Don't see it surviving the winter alone, Not being able to properly den up. No deer sightings unfortunately but you can see where they're feeding through and hitting the acorns. Little daylight left!

Three Cubs and their big ol momma came in right after I posted the last time, adrenaline flowing! They hung around for 5 minutes before momma got in closer, to close for our comfort we didn't want to spoke the Cubs and have them tree near us. Not the situation you want with a sow and THREE Cubs. Stood in my stand when she was at 30 yards to have her see me and they slowly all turned and trotted back where they came from. GREAT time today no doubt! 5 bears. Healthy young population for years to come!
