Nice ones Jim, some fine eatin there. congrats! Rick,,Daaauuum hope it all gets better for you!
I almost had a shot at a beautiful blonde Coyote with a little red mixed in yesterday eve. I ranged it at 53 while it stood on a log but it trotted offf before I could shoot. Didnt go this morn cause of lack of sleep. Friends of my Daughter were trying to haloween us last night around midnight and I had jsu got to bed. The 2 Labs were going crazy and keeping me up. I caught em by the way but was to jacked up after that to sleep. couldnt get up! Im going after Muck Buck in the swamp in the morning! got to get in there real early since im smack in the middle of his bedroom!

I'll be back at it in the morning. Everyone around me is taking deer mostly small bucks. I'm chashing a big 10 and a big 8 that has be seen a lot by the others I hunt with but they are closer to hunt than I. My buddy had them both cross the trail 35 yrds in front of him this morning while he was recovering a doe from that awful night last night. They never knew he was there.
Jim, congrats on the double, too bad we can only count one.

Keep after em Rick,,,Opel good luck in Kansas and best of luck to everyone. Yesterday eve I had a very Large matriarch Doe and 2 state fair quality Fawns come by at 25 yards. Had no clue I was there, I might shoot here later on if given the chance again. I also had another small Doe come by at 20 and right at last light It looked like a small Buck at about 35 yards. Went in the Muck Bucks bedroom very early in the swamp. Had a great wind and man its weird seeing swamp in three directions. I hunted a finger 20 yards wide shaped like a T where I had accidently jumped him twice while scouting. once before the season and once last week. He was a no show this morning and I hunted till 11:00. Im worried he may have got pushed out. Im trying another location in the swamp in the morn. The spot looks killer.

I saw some trendous sign but only 2 does all day long. I am really getting beat down trying to get threw the season with this knee (and not seeing deer) that will be replaced in the spring if I make it that long. Had to take off today from hunting because it looks like a grapefruit it's so swollen.

Well, despite everything that's been going wrong by me, I had a really really exciting hunt last night.
Yesterday morning I thought I caught a glimpse of a big buck down in the swamp but I grunted and he never showed, so I decided to sit in the same spot in the evening. Shortly after getting into the stand I caught movement in the same spot I saw the possible big buck in the morning. Saw a couple sets of legs moving quite fast but couldn't get a good look.

Half hour later I had a fawn come in and bed down 15 yards from me, so my movement was quite restrained and I couldnt call like I had wanted to. Some turkeys came through and I thought I had heard a buck rubbing but couldn't tell for sure with the turks scratching around and my ear being plugged up. Then I heard the rubbing again, getting closer and footsteps to go with it. Now I started to get jacked. Moving very slowly I started to get into position without spooking the fawn and the steps keep getting closer and he kept making more rubs.
Just then I caught movement as he started slipping in. He was a mere 30 yards away but angling away and I could only see bits and pieces of him and his rack. He was angling off and about to slip out of my life so I grunted soft and he stopped and looked. I could see good brows and mass and a long G2. He just turned and walked off making more rubs as he went.

Cool encounter beagle. Keep after em bud! Rick, that blows about the knee, hope it gets better.
I had 4 Does come by yesterday eve then 2 Bucks started chasing them all over. One was a 2.5 yo 8 point and the other just a scrub buck.
Went back to the swamp this morning in new spot and had 7 Does come in right off the bat and later 2 more ran past me like they were being pushed. Did see anything behind them. No horn for the morning. Will try another spot this eve!

Well, it was an interesting day. The first snow of the season so I ran out to my bear spot and got in my stand while my friend Don pushed through the bedding area toward me.

After 2 hours on stand the wind gusts had picked up to about 40 kts so I bailed out of the tree before I got blown out. Once on the ground I went looking into the wind to cut a track but all I found was the carcass of a small bear shot a day or so before. (Sheila and I found a 7mm casing about 100 yards away on Sunday while checking my bear cam so I'm guessing that's what killed him.)

This afternoon I went out behind the house with the idea that I was going to kill the first deer that I came across. I've got a couple friends that need some deer and today is the first day of primitive weapons, either sex season.

Those fletchings are usually white. (I'm not man enough to shoot pink fletchings!) Yep, 50 more points for Team 23 and a nice tender BB for my friend's freezer. I thought it was a doe when I first spotted it and I'm actually pretty pissed at myself for not waiting longer to see the momma step out from behind the giant tree that was hiding her. Anyway, it is what it is. Perfect 30 yard quartering forward shot in the aorta that had it bled out and dead in less than 10 seconds. It looks like a bad winter and I doubt he'd have made it through.

Rick, from what I have heard, knee replacement is not nearly as bad as it used to be. I had always heard that rotator cuff surgery was the absolute worst surgery to have, but I had it last year and it went really well. Soooo basically I'm trying to boost your confidence.
    Congrats Kodiak!
Keep on hunting boys and good luck all. Things are heating up!

    Good job Kodiac, congrats man.
Rick I feel for ya Bud, pain = stress also! I have had the rotator surgery from a nasty tear. Yeah it is a very bad surgery,,hopefully the knee one is not so bad!
Yesterday morning I had 7 Doe's come at first light and hop a beaver creek leading to the swamp. Later there was a Doe and Fawn come trotting by like they were being pushed. 2 hrs later there still was nothing show behind them. Man, im not having a bad year at all but my Buck sightings are way down compared to other years. I have seen only 8 Bucks as of now compared to around 30 about this time of year. The Does are every where and you would think there would be more Bucks pushing them by now. I think ther Rut is getting started a little later this season! Going back in to the swamp in a minute. Its about a mile and a half walk but mostly down a train track. Im going to leave my climber there so I wont have to pack it in the morning. supposed to cool off and rain on the way. I think ill take the tree umbrella and sit as long as possable in the morn! Good luck guys!
