    Found a new buck today, I was mowing in a piece of property I havent been in, in about 3 years and saw him bedded on a small hill above the field, so I am going to put in a couple of late season plots on the lower end and put a couple of stands on the other end.. He looks to be in the 150's.. we will see..

    Sounds like a lot of work for a farmland deer. Put on a wife beater and some coveralls and just drive up to him on the tractor and let him have it. He'll never suspect you're hunting.

    If you want the reward you have to work for it, alot of people think that there are big bucks behind every tree here in Illinois, I am hear to tell you it is a hell of alot harder then people think, alot of work has went into the deer I have harvested and alot of time, it is alot of work, but it is worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Same with WI. I am fortunate to hunt a nice piece of property, with good genetics and have taken some nice deer here. The thing that doesn't show is that each year the bucks I have shot have been my only real opportunities at them.
    The thing I always tell myself, is to hunt hard for that one chance and do things right when the chance has arrived

    You did catch that slight bit of sarcasm in my post did you not? If not, trust me, it was there. I know how hard mature bucks are to kill anywhere.

    Wow, one wife beater comment and all the mice crawling around in the background come out of the woodwork! I never knew our team had so many fans!!

    Opel, it had to be RealTree. Don't you know that you can't kill anything in the midwest unless you're wearing RealTree?!! If that was a NY deer you'd have killed him!

    Yesterday was my first day out for deer since getting back from Oz. I took off early from work to do an overnighter. I knew the moon wasn't cooperating but the weather was going to.

    I got out the road and up the mountain by about 7 pm. Nothing moving all the way until dark. Here's the view from my room;
    [IMG]

    [IMG]

    I did get a nice serenade all night long by the cackling ptarmigan all around me. The moon was bright enough all night that if I had a sight light (which is illegal here) I could have hunted all night long. Instead I slept in the warmth of my bivy and awoke to this;
    [IMG]

    Shortly after getting up and ready to go, I took 2 steps from my bivy and these guys stepped out in front of me none-the-wiser.
    [IMG]

    I passed up my chances at a "Fergie" on a 28 yard shot at the one and a 21 yard shot at another I didn't get on film. Both were little devil bucks. I spent the rest of the morning glassing two fork horns sparring with each other and then stalking my way back to the truck so I could make it back to work by the end of lunch.
    [IMG]

    Not a bad way to spend a night and half a day. It was gorgeous out there!!

    Rob- Nice!!!
    But if you wanted to kill a monster buck all you would of needed to do is have on a caribou skin jacket instead of camo and a pair of Mukluks and rode your dog sled right past him and he would of never known you were hunting and wam, a big ole alaskan buck for the dinner table...GSHHHHHH, would of thought you would have known this!!!!!!!!

    Shoot! I guess I'll head to the shelter this afternoon and start looking for dogs! Think I can get away with a buffalo robe instead of caribou? If not I'm going to have to go kill another caribou too... this is getting complicated. ROFL!
