I got my pack and then truck loaded up this afternoon for an overnighter in the mountains just in time for the clouds to drop in and the rain to open up. I went and scouted my bear spot instead and hung a trail camera. There's been a big 9+ foot shooter through there in the last couple of days. He's using a bedding area where I've got another stand hung. Now if some salmon will just move into the drainage I'll be set!
Well, I was fortunate enough to get another tag on another doe this morning. Not as big as the first one, but a good, fat one. I wish there was a way to put into perspective how immense the blood trail was. I can only think of one other deer that I have shot that bled more. I don't care what anyone says about Rage broadheads, I think they are the most devastating heads out there.
I have to second the rage comment. I have shot two deer with them and saw both go down! Sat in the stand this evening and saw no deer until the walk out but saw tons of turkeys. Gonna give it a shot in the morning. Hope to see something..........supposed to be in the mid-thirties!
I have killed 13 deer with the Rage now and they have saved me a few times on poor shots. The last buck I killed with the bow only ran 100 yards and died after I hit and branch which sent the arrow way back into the guts. I can't say enough good things about them.
Tyler you need to post up the pictures of the doe so we can get 50 points!!!! We are allowed to enter 1 doe per person in case you didnt know.
Congrats again Ryan, Loved the bloodt arrow pic you sent me! Well this is my weekend report. Sat morning the opener I saw nothing but it was the first time in a new area on public land. I had to skip sat eve because I was helping my oldest son buy his first new truck. This morning I passed a Doe at 25 yards and there were 2 more behind her about 80 yards out. Just wasnt in the mood to fool with one yet. I will probably wait till the last of Oct before shooting a slick but I will put one on the board. NOW This evening was a bust. I walked the 1/2 mile bak to a favorite stand that I have had there for 3 years now. I was bummed when I got to it as the tree was snapped off 10" above the seat and the ladder sticks were bent and the top strap broke due to a wind storm several months back. It took me some time just to get it all down. I was looking around for a new tree and discovered a friend of mine has hung one 80 yards from mine and he knew mine was there I got a little angry and just went home .
I got out for a little yesterday evening just to poke around and shake some of the cobwebs off. The brush is still pretty thick here so it may be awhile before I get serious about it. The grass is down but the leaves are still on the alders. It's a little nerve racking when you can't see what's sneaking up on you around here.
Ill be headed out to the stand in about an hour or so. Hopefully a doe presents her self. I am wanting to put something on the ground!!!
Where's Tyler with a post on the scoreboard for the doe? Get her up dude! You need to post her up here with 2 pictures of you, her and your bow so we can get those 50 pts. http://forums.bowhunting.com/showthread.php?24669-Official-Score-Card-(Updated-10-03-11)
X2 I wont be able to get out till the wekend guys. We have started an outage and got put on 10 hr days this week. I also have 3 weeks of vacation comming the last week of October and the first 2 weeks of November
It's to the point already where I really don't have enough time to get out after work, unless I wanna chance it and skip my scent free shower, which I am contemplating. Maybe next week I'll give er a try. Too much stuff going on this week, but this weekend I'll be hard at it again
Everybody, you can only enter "ONE" Doe in the contest and this makes ryan's second, so he cant enter it in the contest.. The rest of us have to get a few...Good Luck everyone and congrats Ryan on No.2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, what he said ^^^^^^ Ill be good for another Doe, just not in the mood yet! Tyler,,get yers entered!!
I have exams all next week but I can't think about anything other than killing a deer. Ill be finally getting to sit this weekend in two my public land spots. They are bow only (VERY important in SC). I'm thinking about friday setting up in a small natural clearing over acorns and then saturday an all day sit in the deep woods 20 yards above a ravine. The ravine seems like it would be great cover for a smart deer and it winds around this huge pond so its probably the easiest way to get from one area to another area of woods. Hope I get to see something and the brush isn't too thick.
