I shot a beautiful big doe at 7:45. What a way to start the year... It feels good to do something good right off the get-go after waiting allllll year for season to come around.

I got in this morning to a stand I put up this summer, so I was pretty excited to sit in a brand new place.
I also tried out some new camo that I hoped would be warmer than they ended up being. I froze my tush this morning!
Anywho, I have this stand about 75 yards into our cedar swamp and I could hear a few deer early on but couldn't see them. Right around sunup I had a doe and a fawn sneak up right behind me, which there is no shot. She hit my tracks where I walked in and caught my scent and raised quite the ruckus.
After sittin for awhile and freezing, I decided I would sit til 8:15 before I would leave. Just then I heard something to my right, so I stood up and grabbed my bow and got ready. I was peering right, when I heard a slight crack and movement out of the corner of my eye. Mama and a fawn 10 yards from me and unaware of my presence. I got situated and drew back as she went behind a spruce tree. She stepped out at 15 yards and I let it fly. She was slightly quartered away and the arrow hit perfect.

After eating, changing clothes, phone calls and texts I got back out and tracked her 125 yards.

The first picture of the wound is the exit wounds, 2nd is the entry.
Also, I have never dealt with a deer that suffered rigor mortis quite like this. Everything was locked up tight

    Nice deer Beagle!!

I tried today. Got in the stand at 5:30 and left and 8 pm...its been a long day just breaking for lunch and switching stands. I really thought I might score today.

Well it wasn't my number one location anyway. Hopefully come October these public lands will be better than the private lands I hunt. I can't seem to get a break. Today was my first day ever bowhunting whitetails seriously, But it seems too much like last year when I sat every break with my shotgun and saw nothing.

It will get better. Sept and first 3 weeks of Oct are not my favorite times to be hunting. Beagle, congratulations once again. Sorry I had you confused with my hunting partner yesterday morning, LOL. He had just text me saying a pair of does just crossed the creek at 60 yards and 5 minutes later you text say you put what appeared a good hit on a doe. I didn't even look at who it was from. We went back and forth before you mentioned letting another team member know then it clicked. You had be be wondering what the hell is he talking about. Everyone had a good laugh anyway.
Again congrats on getting us on the board.

Haha yeah it's no big deal tho.
Opening day couldn't have gone better... until 6pm last night... I had a bunch of does on the field, and a majority of them were coming out downwind and not smelling me at all so I really thought things were going well. At about 6 last night, I had does in front of me that had been there all night that got real spooky all of a sudden. Just then, I heard crashing in the woods to my left, where they had all come from, when a GIANT came running onto the field. I grabbed my bow then realized that the big buck had an arrow hole and blood coming out of him, right around the liver area but higher... I had no time to get a shot at him, as he and allllll the deer on the field ran off. I saw two deer after that. A little before dark I got down and tried finding blood but no luck, and no sound of anyone tracking him.
Now this stand is in the dead center of our property, so it baffles me that a big big buck like that would run out onto the field like that if he was hit so far away, or if someone was sitting on our land, where. or if they were possibly tracking him and kicked him up... He's got me quite frazzled.
Hopefully the weather stays like it is today and I can get out tonight. This morning was pretty wet so I opted to rest a little bit and then get up and look for more blood but I had no luck

I looked for blood last night, then looked a little bit today and just scoped a few areas where I thought he may have headed... kind of familiar places where deer have been known to go die but no luck... the rain probly didn't help matters

Monsterbuck74 congrats to your son on the Doe,,thats good stuff!!
I dont normally hunt public ground but after scouting a peice last season and finding 2 P&Y caliber sheds I went in yesterday and ended up hanging a stand. There were decent rubs all over the area im looking at and it ends up, after talking to my Daughters Boyfriend we found out he hunts not to far off. I showed him the sheds from last season and he thinks the Buck he seen while scouting the other day was one them. He said the G-2's were around 12" and as an 8 pointer should score around high 130's to 140" I also scouted the new lew lease I picked up and found a promising bottle neck and scored a broken main beam with a point attached from a fight! looked to be about 2 seasons ago
Pics of the Sheds from last season on the public ground, They were both just border line p&y then! Im hoping they both gain 12-15" this season
