Don’t want to make this a BBMA Forum (Big Bucks Missed Anonymous), but I have to a little bit. I am sick to my stomach from last night’s hunt. I missed an opportunity at the biggest buck I have ever seen in the stand. Here is the story: At about sunset (1/2 left to hunt) I had a coyote sneak in on me and I shot him six rows out in the standing bean field. He ran straight out into the field and shooting a Mathews everything was nice and quit, so I nocked another arrow and sat waiting. Say movement coming down the fence row ten minutes later and a got stood up and turned and here the big boy came. I didn’t study the rack to much because once I saw he was a definite shooter I started focusing on the kill zone, but let’s just say Monster Raxx would be proud. Well he came down the six rows into the bean field and would have walked perfectly broadside right next to the stand at 15 yards, but he got to the arrow in the ground and took one sniff and bolted. Got him to stop broadside, but miss judged the distance and the arrow went right over his back. Held 40 pin on him and more like 25 in hindsight. All happened quickly, but as he was walking in I was afraid of him smelling the arrow in the ground; however, that was a quartering toward me shot at 18 yards. Maybe should have shot him before the arrow, I don’t know. Only solace I am giving myself is hopefully he thought it was a coyote messing with him and not some bad hunter in a treestand. So close, but yet so far. No bucks allowed to hit the ground this Saturday or Sunday in Ohio, so won’t be in the tree again for a little bit unless I can get out tonight.

Hey don't worry about the numbers for the team. If he's a trophy to you then take him. The seasons are too short to worry about the numbers. Just enjoy your self. Good luck!!

I don't know much at all about sikas, but that is one of the bigger one's I've seen. I'd take him if I had the chance. Good luck!

I do not know many bow hunters that haven't missed. The only advice I can give is don't let it eat you up. I missed a giant I was after a few years ago during slug season because he quickly changed which way he was going and I didn't expect it. I put my cross hairs on him and fired. I shot right under him because he was 120 yards and I did not raise up a little. I let that eat at me and the rest of the season just sucked!!! You have a lot of time left, try to learn from what happened and like the saying goes climb back on the horse. Good luck I hope you get another chance.

    Good luck French.

I'm hoping to get out on some public land this weekend but I haven't been able to find out of the gov shutdown has them all closed. The state parks should still be open right?

Good luck hunting this weekend. It will be a little while before I even have the chance to add some points. My kids will be the hunting focus for the next 2 weeks. This is the last weekend of bear hunting and Justin wants to try one more time so we will be heading up north in the morning. Then next Thursday starts a 4 day early season youth gun season. I will be taking my son and my daughter Allison on her first ever deer hunt (she wants to shoot a bigger buck than her brother did when he was 10) so I have my work cut out for me.

That's the issue I've been having. I may just show up at silver springs. Its only 15mins away it won't be a big deal if it's closed.
