I'm probably not going to hunt much the first couple of weeks of October unless it cools off alot. The past few years I spent most of my time sweating and swatting mosquitos. Not my idea of fun. If the weather is nice for hunting, I'll be in the tree.

I have vacation from Oct 30 thru Nov 11. However I can not hunt the first day archery season this year, my wedding annv. But I do have the 2nd and 3rd day of archery season off. I will be in a tree trying to Kill at least a doe for meat for the freezer and 50 points for us.

Oct 05 first day / annv.

I like using a decoy in early season. I would use a buck decoy and have it quartering towards you at 25 yards in case the buck circles in between you and the decoy so it isn't too close.

I have a 4 day weekend the first week of October, but I also have the first 17 days of November off! I talked to the land owner of my best farm and he said he's seeing deer everywhere. my church is a 1/4 mile away and the property there has deer sign all over the place. they are eating acorns, looks like a lot of doe and fawn activity. I should have my new trophy cam up in the back hidden corner of a bean field next week. if I can get a rain sometime ill hang 2 stands then get out of there. I need a south wind to hunt it. ill post pics of my findings the second week of October... sorry for the long wait, but I think it will be worth it. I'm also getting a new truck so wish me luck.

Cant wait to hear how DoubleLung did out in ND. Looks like we will really start racking up the points October 1. Most of our team starts then. If we can get a few points before that we should be right where we want. I will be in a stand on Saturday and cant wait to see what comes in. The bucks are using the cedar tree one of my cameras is on as a licking branch and a lot of bucks are stopping there 20 yards from one of my stands :)

Here we go again! Our DNR just posted the following notice.
DNR announces EHD found in Muskegon County:
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Michigan State University Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health announced that epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) has been confirmed in a white-tailed deer in Muskegon County, which is the first county to have EHD hit this fall.

Not what I wanted to read.

That's a nice buck. I have been organizing pics and have come up with 11 different bucks and 2 shooters. The pictures of my shooters are not perfect, anywhere from 120" to maybe 135" on both. I am happy with that.

I took a risk a week ago and moved a camera within 30 yards of a well established bedding area. I will get this week and not return until the rut. I have very high hopes for those pictures. I have another camera out that will be 2 weeks plus that is in a decent spot and will have a lot of deer pics, but hoping for another shooter wandering around. We do not have a shooter on film yet from our best place. We have two other cameras out in average areas we will pull over the weekend also. Very excited for the weekend.

Was wondering if you guys have ever done this? I have a 10 year old nephew doing youth season. It is the first weekend of October. I am thinking of pulling all four cameras and putting in the area he is maybe gonna hunt. I have never done this before, thought maybe it would help him?

Hey Fellas! I'm back from North Dakota... sorry for not staying in touch but I had a hard enough time staying in touch with family, so don't feel so bad. :)

Unfortunately nothing hit the ground in our 8 day trip. We had some opportunities early but caught some bad breaks... when we needed a buck to feed right he'd feed left, or like when you have a 135" buck coming to within 20 yards of your setup and a beaver spooks it onto the opposite hillside. The weather didn't help our cause the average temp was in the 90's, making it difficult to get into the bucks bedding area's without stinking it up. All-in-all we learned alot and had some good opportunities and great experiences.

I now turn my attention to the Wisconsin opener which is this Saturday! I will be in stand hoping to fill the freezer early.. Good Luck to all who will be joining me in the woods!

North Dakota can be a tough place to hunt early when it is that hot. Good luck this weekend in WI!

I know we have said this a few times and I just want to make sure everyone knows. We have to post 2 pictures of your deer both does and bucks with you, your bow and your deer. It has to have everything and 2 different pictures. There have been people in the past that tried to crop pics to make it look like two and they always get caught. If anyone has any questions about this or anything else just let me know. You can always message me here or email or my cell is 763 269 1962.

Can't be said enough because it seems to happen every year. To be sure go crazy with taking pics, it's always a good idea.
