Man I bet deer are moving this morning. Conditions seem to be right. Hopefully some of you are out. I'm sitting in the office doing a schedule. :-( Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
We were out last night - it was WINDY!!! but we had plenty of deer around us. Nearly got another doe on film for the show. No bucks yet - we are waiting on the cornfield to be harvested and then the spots really heat up. It's amazing how much buck sign we saw - scrapes and tons of rubs - it's starting!
When I rolled into work this morning there weren't many deer in the field, I was surprised. Hopefully that means they will be moving tonight! I'm going to bail out of work early today and try to be in the stand and settled by around 4:30, something tells me they will be moving a little earlier than usual this evening. Low overnight temp is supposed to be in the mid 20s, time to hammer the food sources. I haven't been this excited about hunting since the last time I went out. Good luck out there, be safe.
I have to work every night this weekend but I will get out and bowhunt the mornings with this cold weather moving in, Good luck everone ! Here is the video of my Illinois Opening Day 2012 Bowkill http://youtu.be/cYtyFiY9DbM
Heading out this afternoon after work. I'd reeealllyy like to lay a buck down tonight so I can relax and watch my Gators whip LSU tomorrow

Congrats Michigan! I just landed in Kansas, and tomorrow begins my 2012 hunting season with a 3 and a half day trip to my grandparent's farm. This will definitely be my best shot at a big buck this season. I can't wait to finally get in the stand and hopefully I can lay down a Kansas stud!
Couple girls out for a walk tonight. I had two other doe bedded down 25 yards from me most of the night. No bucks though, back at it in the morning!
I had a giant 8 pointer bed next to me last year... Never did get him Sent from my Milestone X2 using Tapatalk 2
Congrats Michigan! I'm going to start by saying I had the best and worst night in the stand I've ever had tonight. The amount and quality of deer I saw tonight was incredible. That's the good, the bad is I think I screwed up a good chance at a great buck. Got in the stand around 4:45, by 5:15 there were deer everywhere in the field. Deer doesn't begin to explain it, there were at least 5 shooters in the field and several other deer. I texted one of my buddies that there was over 600 inches of bone feeding within 150 yards. After about a half hour the bucks had all fed into the woods to the east, away from me. Around 6:45 4 does entered the field from the east on a run looking back as they moved into my field. Shortly after they began to feed the first buck popped out of the woods followed closely by 4 others one by one. The bucks start to slowly work across the field towards me, I get set up and try to calm myself. When the bucks get within 50 yards they are feeding and are obscured by an overhanging tree, I have cover and time enough to decide which one I want to try take. Just so you know I've had multiple bucks close before but never 5 shooters at the same time, talk about buck fever. I decide on a big bodied solid 10 with good tine length. I passed on the first 2 bucks that entered my shooting lane then the buck I wanted started that way and I drew back and waited for him to clear the tree. When he cleared he was quartering away hard walking away slowly, I wasn't going to take that shot. As I looked back to see what the other bucks were doing every deer in the field turned and looked back to the east. Three coyotes came out of the woods on a run, I look back and my target buck is now facing towards them quartering away slightly at 25, I bury the pin on his off shoulder and let it go. At the release the buck ducked and turned, the arrow hit back and high. The buck ran about 50 yards and stopped looking back my way, I could see about half the arrow sticking out, he then walked over a rise and out of site. At dark I got down and found blood around where he paused in the field, I stopped there and backed out as this type of hit is going to take time if it is lethal. I'm going back in the morning to start the search, I not sure I like my chances. I'm embarrassed I didn't take into consideration that the deer was on alert, I know better. Hopefully I got enough penetration and got to the vitals. I'll update as soon as I can tomorrow. Sorry guys and gal.
Good luck with the recovery man, I know from experience what your feeling. Hopefully he's laying just over the hill.
I had an awesome first day in Kansas! Saw 13 deer total including 2 shooter bucks. Unfortunately my setup didn't offer me quite enough cover and the deer came from the wrong direction. I'll be back out there tonight so hopefully I can get it done. Good luck to everybody this weekend!
