opeing day!! I knew the water was rising around my stand... (I hunt very close to the mississippi, and it's way high) I avoided a few areas where the creek was hitting the trail... got to my stand well before light....

waited a good 40 minutes for light, (was cloudy, and I left early expecting to have to avoid high water areas) when it got bright enouh to see, I lowered my bow and went home.

I was surrounded by water, varying from puddles to 3- 4 ft, until the creek channel, which at this stage wouuld have been at least 25 - 30 ft deep. (and flowing pretty good) (shoulda been tipped off when I saw the twp raccons walk by and they were splashing!

can't hunt again till the end of the week, if I can even get out, it's my only day off, and I'll no doubt have a ton of stuff to catch up on. but I'll let ya know.

hoping you folks have better luck!

Well I got within 82 yards of a herd of elk that I was chasing but couldn't close the gap to my max pin a comfort zone of 60yards. An within 60 yards of a few good bucks. But i did get within 30 yards but no shot only when me good luck charm was with me (wife).

An come to find out that from Nov. 1 to dec. 19 I got an whitetail only hunts in the units I'm hunting. :way happy:

Good news and bad news, small 6 X 6 is good news. Bad news is my buddy got it and I had to help pack it out, 2 trips and 12 miles.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

Awesome pics! Bet it was a great time. How does one go about elk hunting if they are a non resident? Not that I would go anytime in the near future but it looks like a lot of fun and I've been interested for awhile but wouldn't know where to start.

It was, my boys had a great time and that's the most important part. We got our second elk down last night when my buddy up from Texas got a smaller bull. Tags are over the counter, 150 for license for out of state but the kicker is the out of state elk tag is $417. Assuming that's no issue there is so much open space/national forest you just pick your region and go. You can go with an outfitter but that's more $. I've only been out here a few years and I'm hunting public land.

If you do I'd be happy to recommend a few spots. I'll be honest I think it's worth it. When we called in that bull last night and you see him closing distance it's hard to describe. The first time you bugle and an elk answers you back you will never forget it. Not to mention even a small elk is over 500 lbs

I may not be that good at hunting. But I would be more! than happy to put you up at our place or up at the campsite if you made it over our way. jjs3 will have better knowledge of everything than I probably do. But between the both of us I'm sure we could probably help out with a little bit of the cost an some good hospitality. An from my end that goes out to all team members. I haven't met any of of but y'all are more than welcome.

We've got room in camp for both you guys next year if you like. My buddies from Texas are up, we had a big ol boy in to 40 yards but he couldn't get a shot. I've tagged out or I would be a happy camper!

I'm with you guys on the Elk hunting, was supposed to go last year but had to stick around for my business. This year I have a torn up knee so didn't plan anything. Next year has to be the year.

Anyone doing any deer hunting? I've been in the stand twice now and didn't see anything on my second sit at all. Looks like it might be a long year again. I'm probably looking at waiting a couple weeks and trying again and then waiting until late October, just not worth wasting the gas to watch the wind blow.

Hopefully you guys are either seeing more from the stand or on trail cameras.
