Good Luck Jeff In The AM Hopefully he's waiting 80 Yards out in the feild from where you shot him, glad you left him alone! Sounds positive to me. Rocky
Headed out this afternoon for a special hunt, It will be the first time my father has ever hunted our new place and first time he has hunted in over 4 years since moving to China. Weather isn't the greatest but I'm hoping some lite rattling may get a thick necked buck on his feet. In any case, I will be out all weekend with a chance of snow here in Michigan. With this weather getting cooler the rut has to be on any day now!
That sounds awesome man!! I know you two will have a blast regardless of the weather or what you see...we don't have a chance for snow but we do have some lows 30's temps for Sunday and Monday...i think it is on here in SE NC right now....I am going to be out sick Friday with buck fever and it will probably last until Saturday afternoon and then come back Sunday afternoon lol
Well I've never been so happy to find a clean arrow in all my life! No blood, no gut slime, no smell. A few white hairs were in the area of "impact". I'm 26 ft up and I'm 6'4" so it was a pretty steep angle. I'm guessing when I hit my bowhook it sent the arrow way low and back. I reviewed trail cam pics on the plot and I think it was the light 10 I got pics of all summer. Hopefully he's back on cam and healthy when I get back next week to hunt
Well good news for the most part Jeff. Would of been nice to find him dead but that is the way it goes.
Not the ending you were hoping for but probably better than what you were thinking might have happened...hopefully it just spooked him and he will be back...
I'm really hoping so! He's lived here the last three years and I'm praying he doesn't decide to spread his wings. The shot happened last night off my turnip plot which is on the south side of the farm. He, and two other shooters have been working that area like crazy the last two weeks. I put fresh batteries and cards in my cameras there and will hopefully see sign of him while I'm gone. I may hunt the north side of the farm tonight. It's about 3/4 of a mile from where I shot last night but a buck I call halo likes that area and it'll also let my turnip area cool down. I'm happy with a clean miss, but man I want to kill that deer so bad. If it is the grey colored 10 that's my third encounter with him this year, first in bow range and shooting light. I won't be around to hunt this weekend, but the two neighbors, who are good QDM guys and good neighbors will be out there after him and the other shooters. I'm hoping I don't miss out on too much action. They're limited on acreage tho, one owns an 80, the other has a 160, ours is a section with plenty of food, cover, and water. Hopefully they stay safe on our ground haha
I hear ya there. I was hoping to be the one to break the ice in the antler department, but I guess we'll have to settle for belly hair for right now haha. I think those of you in the woods this weekend are going to lay some antler down! Good luck everyone!
I'm going to really get after them this weekend. Weather really cooled down and the ruts gonna explode at any minute. I'm excited. Good luck team!!!!!
Jeff Glad you got a clean miss, maybe not LOL, at least your not on your hands and knees looking for blood. Maybe he's not to scared and will walk by you again, let's hope so huh! Well only 12 more hours before I fly home for the month of November. Really looking forward to see If I can out do my best buck ,never have I had so much time to tag a bruiser. That's 192 3/8 in 1994,a 7x6.I just want to break the 200 inch mark before I quit hunting .Hopefully I can do it this year. I have 3 animals that will score over the 200 inch mark too. The one I missed that got shot one block over from me scored 217 . I had him @ 13 yards and had 2 twigs deflect my arrow through a 3 inch hole in the bushes that were covering him last year. Talk to you 's when I get home today! Rocky
Had my first hard moment last night as a hunter, I stuck an arrow right in a doe's shoulder....after a 2 hour search and only finding the last 8" of the arrow clean, we ended up heading home empty handed. This is the first time I have ever had an unsuccessful blood track and that's partly due to no blood but also has to do with my hunter ethic I feel. When I drew back the shot just didn't seem comfortable but I took the shot anyways believing in my form and practice. I probably could have just passed on this deer but with my dad there I thought it would be a good time tracking the deer. In the end, I slept like crap last night and I left a injured deer in the woods. I've learned from this experience and hope that its my last for awhile. I understand these things happen to the best but, still disappointing.
I am playing hooky from looking at maps all day lol...I am sitting on the top of oak ridge where it meets a creek. There are scrapes and acorn everywhere. It rained last night so I am hoping they return to freshen them up....it is not quite as cool today as they said it would be but still in upper 50's with 8-9 mph wind..Just beautiful in here
A yote was not what I was hoping for but I could not let him walk. My first yote with a bow. This farm has wayyyy to many. This one had another one with him that ran off. About 3 minutes after I shot him the other one started howling a couple hundred or or yards away...next thing you know a whole packs tunes up in the distance...i am wondering if this spot is hosed the rest of day or should I stick it out...thoughts?
